Tennessee vs. Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen. Are you nervous?

Pat Adams and Doug Shows...how???
They both have been doing Final Fours for years. Not sure how they grade them.

I am fairly confident in saying that I saw at least one SEC official in most, if not all, of the games that SEC teams participated in so far. I thought that was interesting.

never heard of them
You've got Ian Eagle and Kevin Harlan in 2 of the regions, who are the best of the best. Brian Anderson, who did our 1st/2nd round games in another region. He's good too. Then you have Catalon, who isn't terrible, but I think Steve Lappas is really annoying.

Him and Pete Gillen are the two most annoying that CBS employs imo. Thankfully, Gillen is relegated to only CBSSN.

I guess the silver lining is that you may have officials who've not developed biases having done too many SEC games and seen players too many times.
Seems to me most broadcasters who call other conference games regularly always comment on the physicality SEC refs allow. If they are going to be ticky tack from another league, that is not in our favor

Twice in two separate gyms, no less. A third time in a third location won't be an anomaly. We'll just be forced to accept that something we do defensively doesn't work for what UK likes to do on offense.
I don’t think it’s a great mystery, it’s not this simple, but overall…we struggle with over helping, it’s why we are a great defense, but it’s also why when we lose it’s typically to a team shooting well from 3. In our wins we hold teams to about 26% from 3, in our losses that number is about 36% from deep, 16-6 when opponents shoot 26%+, 13-1 when it’s <26%. What does Kentucky do better than anyone else in the league since January 1? Shoot the 3, right at 40% as a team since conference play started, so they excel in what is our “deficiency”.

A huge part, and it’s hard to break habits, but we have to lock up 1-1 and not help, if you get beat to the rim and give up a tough 2 whatever, but stop helping which plays entirely into their hand and allows them to get into that rhythm, which is a shooters best friend.

Yep, I agree. If you move the ball we'll against us, you will eventually get an open looks because we help so often and aggressively. I'm with you...give up a tough look from 2 if it means covering up an open 3 against this UK team. Make Williams beat you with his back to the basket. Make Andrew Carr put the ball on the floor. Just don't give up open looks to Brea and the guys who should be non-factors like Noah, Almonor, and Perry (if he plays). Those guys can only hurt you one way, and it's from the 3-pt line.

ZZ and Mashack can frustrate Butler and Oweh with their defense. Oweh has been on fire lately, and he had 13 and 14 against us, but it came on 36.4% shooting on 22 combined shots, so he wasn't particularly efficient. Half his points came at the foul line. Butler hasn't been particularly good since our last meeting. The shoulder is really hampering him. He's averaging 7.1 ppg, 3.5 apg, 1.8 TOs on 41% FG and 21% from 3.

Yea, I love Mashack on Owen and Zeigler on Butler, to me Oweh is their engine that gets things going and Butler being limited with the should should only make Zeigler even more effective against him. Lanier or Gainey should be more than capable of guarding Brea, stay on your feet against him and stay home, he’s not ultra athletic but uses pump fakes very well to get his shot, again, tough is fine. And spot on about Williams and Carr, make those guys score it 1-1 in the paint, no need to help.

I hope Vols don't totally stop shooting the wide open threes (which they looked reluctant
to take in the last game). I would much rather face any other of the 14 teams in the S16 than
this Ky team. We just don't seem to match up with them very well (or UT seems to tighten up
when playing Ky, similar to the football team playing against Fla before Heuple).

Butler may be limited when relying on his left shoulder, but he’s right-handed and still a very dangerous player with the ball - 14 pts, 5 assists, and 4-5 from the floor in 33 minutes vs Illinois. It’s not like he’s hopping around on one leg.

According to UK fans on twitter they don't have to win this game, so they have "won" either way
That’s rather odd. They don’t understand that they have to win to advance and if they lose they go home? Going home is not my idea of “winning”.

I would feel a lot better about it being an aberration if it hadn't happened twice already. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I can't stand Kentucky with every fiber of my being.
Fair points. If Kentucky beats us a third time and ends our season short of the Elite 8, it's hard to imagine a worse ending. One the other hand, if we manage to beat them in the game that counts on our way to the Final 4, it's hard to imagine a better scenario.

Great opportunity for Barnes to prove he's the best coach in UT history. He's been a head coach for 37 years. UK's Pope first became a head coach in 2015.

The Vols will win the game if Barnes utilizes all his accumulated knowledge and develops a winning game plan. If he's stubborn and won't adapt the Vols will likely lose.
