Tennessee vs. Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen. Are you nervous?

Not trying to be negative and I think Tennessee should win this one but Tennessee can't win 3 point shoot outs. Tennessee struggles against hot shooting teams and UK has done that to Tennessee twice. Third time is a charm though.
I mean…everyone struggles against hot shooting teams. That’s basketball.

Y’all actually think KY is going to hit 50% from three again ? In a football stadium ? I kinda’ doubt it… especially after they start missing a few during the shoot around .. and then get a little subconsciously nervous about it .. and then miss a few at the beginning of the game… they are gonna look up and be down by 15 with Olewah in foul trouble and listening to Rocky Top blaring at the ten minute mark in the first half.

I will find it delusional if these SEC matchups in the NCAAT don’t have SEC refs. There is zero reason to have these tight whistle mf little sister of the poor conference officials doing this game.

I guess the silver lining is that you may have officials who've not developed biases having done too many SEC games and seen players too many times.

Any game is subject to officiating so it maybe a wash.
Teams have to adjust during the game. SEC officials are not the greatest and they change during the games. Touch fouls go to fouls. Ghost look. As long as Doug Shows is not calling this game we are fine.

Regarding Bulter's comment it was said but social media and news agency has turned a spark in to a fire. Don't think he guarenteed a win as stated, but what was the question asked of him. Regardless the media provides the fodder.

Here is what I think: I think that if you guys keep playing defense like you’re capable of, limit costly mistakes (turnovers), and hit from the foul line, Tennessee is going to be very hard to beat.

I know that sounds like an obvious assessment, but I’ve watched you guys play, and when you’re playing well you can play with and have a good chance to beat any team in the nation.

Sure, there is always the chance that an opponent just shoots the lights out, but good defense can certainly make it tougher for them. You guys have a good chance to make it to the final four IMHO, and if you make it that far, you have as good a chance as anyone.

As stated many times before, I’ll be pulling for you guys bc I really love watching ZZ play! If he is playing well, you guys are tough to beat.

something will definitely have to change on both sides for us to pull the W.

Bad matchup, they will come in very confident, but those two L's were a while ago and anything can happen in the tourney. If we can limit their 3pt shooting and keep from going cold for stretches, we have a legit chance. Oh, and Igor needs to pull is head out of his arse and finally have a day.
Another thing the Vols will need to be ready for….Lamont Butler being back on the floor. He didn’t play at all in the game in Knoxville and limited minutes in the second game before getting injured. He is a great defender, can shoot the three, a rim finisher and has Final Four experience.

Be terrible if Dubar or Phillips came in and ran a hard screen and happened to bump his shoulder.
Just awful.

Anyone have some good X’s o’s preview/analysis of the UK game? Need some content to help get me through the week. Jordan Sparber from HoopVision used to have awesome stuff but he got hired by Miss St and quit posting

Kentucky is going to go to the same thing that worked for them against us. And they do this as a pressure release. They put Amari Williams at the point position to lower the on-ball pressure at the top of the key. That forces us into more of an off-ball defense. We are a very good defensive team but we are a little better on-ball defenders than off-ball defenders. They consistently go to the dribble handoff with their guards out of this and force us to hedge or switch with post defender onto their guards or they get open jumpers or drives off the handoff. It really forces us to be on-point with our rotation and assignments. Kentucky can have very good ball movement and motion and if we aren’t doing the same defensively they will 100% have open looks again.

I’m sure after going against it twice and having 5 days to prepare for this game we’ll perform better defensively and have a different wrinkle or two. But it all comes down to actually executing on the floor.

Also, I’m hopeful Kentucky isn’t just flamethrowing hot again. With this being played in a football stadium, the vision and depth perceptions may take a second to get used to and hopefully they aren’t dialed in all game long.

In 1972 the NCAAT only had 25 teams and only invited the SEC champion. Despite losing at KY earlier, UT had a one game lead over KY with the final game being KY coming to Stokely one game back.

KY beat TN, tied TN for the SEC regular season title at 14-4, and they got the NCAAT invitation. TN’s players were so disappointed that they voted to not accept the NIT invitation. Mike Edwards, Len Kosmalski, John Snow, Lloyd Richardson, and Larry Robinson. That team would have won 2 or 3 NCAAT games under today’s format.

That might currently be the biggest TN v KY game in history. Adolph Rupp was still coaching the Cats.

Revenge game is in 3 days.

Steve Hirschorn and Eddie Voelker played a lot of PG that year. Snow and Edwards were both excellent shooting guards and Snow played out of position a lot as the PG. Wayne Tomlinson was in the rotation in the paint. Wilbert Cherry and Larry Robinson were TN’s first 2 black players. Larry Robinson was a great, often overlooked player. Bernard King Light.

Hubbs just said on the radio their is a lot of noise that if Barnes wins this game friday night no matter what happens this may be it for him
Barnes is not going anywhere. We have three Fermat recruits and several transfers coming in. Also, in summer some of our seniors may come back for the 5th year.

I would feel a lot better about it being an aberration if it hadn't happened twice already. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I can't stand Kentucky with every fiber of my being.

These are the 40 officials selected to work the Regional Semis on Thursday & Friday. Specific game crews have yet to be announced.

Twice in two separate gyms, no less. A third time in a third location won't be an anomaly. We'll just be forced to accept that something we do defensively doesn't work for what UK likes to do on offense.
