Tennessee vs. Gonzaga

Allan Houston at the free throw line, made the first and intentionally missed the second. Corey Allen grabs the rebound, scores, gets fouled, and hits his free throw for the win.

Kentucky got their revenge in the SECT on the night of the blizzard. 101-40 at Rupp in Allan's final game. Wade should have been let go right after that game instead of keeping him for his 5-22 5th year. TN had to be PC instead of doing the right thing. Dickey dropped the ball. I wonder who the candidates would have been one year before KO made his S16 appearance in the TBA?
That's exactly the sequence......great memory, and yes, we got ambushed in our last game. I don't know who the candidates may have been, but KO was a great recruiter.

Friday March 12, 1993. The hardest snowfall I have ever seen... Me and my roommate were freshmen at UT and we went to his parents house in Farragut that night... we couldn't get down I-40 at 1 am it was snowing so damn hard.

UT is 4-13 in 17 meetings against the number one team in the country and it should be a very good game as long as UT pounds the ball inside and limits the 3 point attempts...... Given the size of Gonzaga, could Kent see some minutes tomorrow if Alexander, Fulkerson and Walker all get into foul trouble?
Given the size of Gonzaga? They play 1 guy that is taller than 6’8”

In order to win the game the cols first have to believe they can win. That means the toughest defense to date, high % shooting and blocking out

As you mentioned Gonzaga only has one player taller than 6'8" and he's a freshman who has played about 5-9 minutes in close games. Reading this forum I have been surprised at how little the UT fan base seems to know (or be willing to quickly look up ) regarding GU.

I also think that a high-foul or tightly called game will be a net benefit to Tennessee. Our current starters vs your starters is a matchup I like. But our 3-8 players against yours is a matchup I hate.

We pride ourselves in knowing as little as possible......then other fan bases underestimate us and "kapow"......Go Vols!

This will be a chess match between Barnes and Few.
Players are all seasoned and talented so those cancel each out.
I think Barnes out coaches few to a tight game of attrition through fouls.

We have a lot of fans who are football fans and casual basketball fans, obviously Zags don’t have this same issue.

The Duke game was a fast paced game. 2 offensive teams. This game will match an offensive team with a defensive team. Barnes will try to win this with defense. I expect the score to be in the mid 60 range.

I hope u are right, because imo, if u are, UT wins. I think it will be a higher scoring game, but the Vols win, 80-77

Anyone going to the game tomorrow?

Bought courtside tickets for me, my gf and good buddy for his bday. The gf is a converted Vol fan and my buddy is a big basketball fan/soon to be Vol fan. So excited to not have to travel to TN for once to see them play. We are right by the Gonzaga bench so we’ll do our best to be rowdy!!! : )

I've been a visitor here at your place for a year now ... I've always liked Coach Barnes (he's a friend of Mark Few's ... at Texas they'd to the "secret" scrimmage every year but I like that at Tennessee they actually play games that count).

I was in the house last year (Nashville) and the previous year (Seattle) and know a bit about your depth. Sorry if you thought I was "whining" about GU's current lack of depth ... I wasn't. Or wasn't consciously whining.

I thought I'd communicated that I thought Sunday would be a great college basketball game, and it should be. Win or lose it's a great game to have on each program's resume.

Edited to add this quote from deepspringsvol in last month's volnation thread about the topic of Gonzaga not being at full strength. I agree with deepspringsvol, btw

"They will be tough out with or without a key player. Mark Few has plenty of talent but he has more than that the ability to get the most out of whoever he has and not matter who he does not." Zags lose big man for 8 weeks, shouldn't return until after they play Vols
Barnes never has beaten Few and never has beaten a # 1 team. Today, maybe?

A mid 60's game would mean the Zags are cold from the 3 point range. It won't take but a minute today to see if they are.

Who will be in the starting lineup for the Vols today ?
My uneducated guess is that Bowden will be back in the starting lineup today. I say that because of his defensive prowess, but Pons can also provide that.

Bone
Bowden or Pons
Schofield
Grant
Kyle

Question for you. What do you think about Jalen Johnson ?

I don't have much of an opinion on him. Pretty small sample size, but I don't think the defense that Barnes wants him to bring is there yet. Seems like he has a decent jumper and athleticism, but that's about it based on what I've seen.

Well here's 29 seconds of a little Gonzaga "history" on the same court where today's game will be played. This was the dance ('99) that kicked off the start of Gonzaga's "cute little run", which ended 33 seconds and a possession away from the Final Four against eventual National Champion UConn. FWIW I think Gus Johnson did a pretty good job on the call.

Barnes has said publicly that he is the most athletic player on the team. As was mentioned, his defense is not up to par, apparently.

Pons will probably start until Turner is back to his normal self. Bowden and Bone will need to be staggered and by starting Pons it makes it easy to stagger Bone and Bowden.
