I'm interested in the dynamic of Eason getting healthy.

When a former starter returns from injury, will that divide the locker room even a little bit?

Does Chubb play slightly timid? I think so, that was a devestating freakish injury here 2 years ago.

Our Oline plays better. We run more side to side and wear those lbs out for UGA.
From only threw 12 times last week. Not exactly a vote of confidence to take over.

Do we have everyone back and play that 4-3? I hope so, but Gaulden needs to be on the field when possible.

no we won't. if we're consistently trying to make perimeter runs, the GA lb's will feast. we couldn't turn the corner against Umass.


as for everyone back for the 4-3...no, our starting 3 LB's are all still out, so in the 4-3, we'll see Jumper, Sapp and Bituli.

not sure how much of the field Gaulden will see in the 4-3.

as for GA, i don't think EAson will necessarily be 100% come saturday. could probably play if needed, but i think the plan will be to go with the hot hand until....and cross that bridge when you get there.

i don't worry about Chubb being timid. the're 3-4 deep at RB, so he'll have no reason not to all out, and i'm sure coming back in to this stadium, after his last trip, that may provide more motivation, than trepidation.

I think the D plan is the same for both teams. Stack the line and force the QB to beat you with his arm. Others have said this already too. This favors UGA at this point I think. (Edit: obviously. Not a lot of falloff thus far from Eason to Fromm)

Our DBs better eat their wheaties all week long.

I agree with you. The game plan should be a clock control type. Run the ball and dink and dunk like you said. The problem arises if they shut the run down.

Butch always seems to run a fast tempo though. We shall see.

Yep, I'm afraid Butch is going to run tempo and our D is going to get whipped. Maybe something will click for one of our QBs and they will have a break out game. But I'm nervous about this game if we try to go fast. Butch's offense needs a guy like Dobbs and I don't think we have him. QD will never be that kind of runner and JG doesn't look ready for prime time. This is Kelly's offense right now and we need to start acting like it.

Tackle Chubb and Michel LOW! Only way we get them with fast guys low tackles.

Best MSU defense was when they tackled legs! Jumper tackles high.

Need to have few nice schemed plays for 1st. If guess wrong, take timeouts in 1st half. Stay ahead of sticks. No missed block sacks! No penalties. And yes some sustained drives.

i think most would agree Gaulden on the field makes the defense better.

but iirc, shoop said that in a 4-3, it'd be Sapp, Jumper and Bituli, 425, it'd be bituli and Sapp?

obviously Gaulden would be the nickel that 425, but in a 43, is there a spot to get gaulden on the field? safety? DB?

Hate to say it comes down to a battle of the QBs, but it kinda does seem to. And that's why UGa has the edge right now; their QB has been hot, while ours has been shaky.

Would love to see that flip-flopped this Saturday.

Foreword: this is not about drama. Fistfights, sideline moods, firing and hiring, all that stuff has other threads; please leave it out of this one. This is about football.

So how do the two teams stack up? Let's focus the question a little, because if we come out flat like we did last Saturday, it's game over before it even begins.

So, the question of this thread: if both teams come ready to play, amped up, excited, giving it their best effort, how do we do?

A few thoughts to start the conversation:

Vols OLine vs UGa DLine -- gonna be a tough fight, all game long. I'm a bit worried they have the edge here. Could be a long day for our QB(s). But if John Kelly does that thing where he floats behind the blockers for a half-second, then squirts out whichever side shows him an opening, we can still probably have a good running game. Just don't know if our OL is good enough vs their DL to give our still-inexperienced QBs time to pass downfield. May need to go with slants and quick outs and screens in the flats to keep the defense spread out.

Vols front 7 vs UGa's running game -- if our lads show up the way they did vs Florida, think we'll be okay. Chubb will probably get 100 yards anyway, but it shouldn't be devastating to us. For all the teeth gnashing about how Florida ended, our D held them to 168 total rushing yards (and would've only been 94 yards total if we hadn't allowed Davis that one breakout run of 74 yards).

In fact, if you take away that 74 yard run and the 63 yard hail mary that ended the game, you would say our D looked hella good, both against the run and the pass.

So the key for our defense seems to be: play tough, like you did against FL, but this time don't give away any big ones.

Given all that, it kinda comes down to this, I think: can we rattle Jake Fromm, get him to act more like Quinten Dormady has been performing early this season? And can we somehow shake something loose in Dormady's head that frees him up to reach his potential, so that he plays a lot more like how Fromm has been playing so far?

I think the Good Guys get up for this one. Offense clicks from the get go, and the D flies all over the place. We play like we've got nothing to loose. Both coordinators open up the throttle !! Let's get it !! GB🍊

Georgia will make this a four quarter game. They have quality depth on the DL and will rotate players in with no drop off. Same for the RB position. Baring injuries, the D-Linemen and RBs will be fresh going into the fourth quarter.

It's anybody's guess as to how Fromm plays in his first SEC road game. If Georgia is able to run the ball then it won't matter because all he'll be doing is getting the offense lined-up, in the right play and handing off; and he's really good at doing those three things.

It wouldn't surprise me if this turns into a four quarter game with the winning team being the one with the most quality depth. Not sure what Tennessee's depth is this year at DL, LB and RB positions; but those are the three areas that may ultimately determine the outcome of the game.

IMO, the biggest differences between this year's Georgia team and last year's Georgia team are:
Senior Leadership
Quality depth on the DL and improved technique
Five healthy RBs
Year two in the same system and playing faster
Better special teams play
Players look like they are having fun

Things that are similar to last year:
True freshman QB
OL a work in progress

I think if our D can come out and rattle their OL we could win this game. Their OL is their weakest link on the chain IMO. Rattle Fromm after that. That's a W. If the D comes out and gets blown up all day Chubb and Michel will set records for rushing yards in a game.

I honestly can't believe how many of you give us zero chance of winning this game. I fully expect UT to come out ready to play. Sometimes when a team's back is against the wall, they come out swinging and ready to fight. We are not a bad team, certainly not as bad as many make us out to be. Do we have issues that need to be addressed, obviously. Have injuries bit us again, absolutely. Has our play calling been sub-par and coaching decisions have us scratching our head, Yep.

But, this is UGA and we own them. We are playing at home and we definitely have a chance to win this game.

If, by chance, we come out and lay another egg, then that will be a very telling story. If the team looks uninspired again, then I would take that to mean the team has lost confidence in Butch. However, if they come out playing with intensity and fire in their belly, that will also tell a story.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

the original starting 3 at LB are all out, so the guys that were #2 in the 2 deep are now the 1's. LB is a match up advantage for you on paper.

we're deeper than we expected at RB with Chandler and CFA both having quality reps in every game behind Kelly. not sure that's an advantage for us, but it's definitely a plus considering it was a huge ? going in to the season.

the DL...it's not been bad, and i'd say overall it's been better than last year. our 2 deep looks pretty decent across the board. young after that. could be an advantage against your O line, but 'd say overall MSU's front 7 on the whole is probably better than ours.

and i agree, both teams need to stop the run. i don't think either offense is wanting to put it all on the arm of their QB. both GA and TN have weapons at WR that can make big plays. GA has what i think is a big mismatch with their TE's against our LB's/Safeties.

on the whole, the two things for us that stick out are our LB's against your run game, and our O line against your front 7. those are two difficult match ups for us. and if i were UGA, i'd feel pretty good about them from your perspective.

all that said, the last 5 years, this game has been uber competitive, regardless of the match up advantages, and GA has had more of those than us, generally speaking. and it hasn't necessarily mattered to how the game plays out.

it's in Neyland, and i do think we come out with a 'back against the wall' mentality. i expect a pretty good effort out of the boys in orange, and this to be more competitive than it looks on paper right now.

if it's not, then we probably have a window into where this team is with CBJ and if he's on the way to losing this team.

Boca, I think Neyland can be a big deal. I think at its best, it is one of the biggest home stadium advantages in the nation. But you're right, it is not automatic. Doesn't come from the concrete and aluminum.

meh. i get why you say this now, this season. but the atmosphere in Neyland has been really outstanding most of the time, especially when it's division/conference games. GA and FL in particular....

despite the prevailing tone this week, i still think it's probably a tad too early for that. but yeah, if that were to happen, that'd be a bad sign.

You're right, it can be a difference maker but it really hasn't been in a long time.

There are numerous occasions, but here are 3 when Neyland was rocking and the opponent shut it down:

1. Oklahoma 2015- After TKjrs int late in the 3rd it was as loud as I've ever seen it. We know what happened.

2. UGA 2015- When Daniel's punt went out at the 1 the place was rocking. UGA nearly went 99 yards for a late TD.

3. UF last season- Backup QB leads UF to an opening TD drive in 5 plays.

It's not Neyland so much as I think these kids are ready for the spotlight from day 1.
