Defensively....watch the play that develops at 0:42 seconds in the video...

1. O'brien stands up and gets dominated.....

2. Kirkland completely loses his mind and runs himself out of the play....He's gotta stand in there as the LB and follow the ball. If he does--he could've met the RB in the hole and stopped the play for a 2-3 yd. gain....

3. JRM does the same thing....He assumes that the motion dude is gonna get the ball on a pitch or something and runs out of the hole....

We will see this specific play again from Fla, Bama, UGa and others.....

I think the DL will improve and learn to keep their pads low and get off the blocks....

But the LBs MUST learn to play with eye discipline...and read their keys....

Nothing on that play would've led Kirkland to step outside and up towards the Tackle...AND the same for JRM...nothing should've made him run outside...

Fixable.....but very disappointing from guys who should know better...

I was just like most when I watched the game, but after watching the offense you can tell they were being very vanilla. Look at the 12:25 mark in the offense video... that's not how Dobbs play. Dobbs last year would have ran and got the yards, but I think they told him to play it safe this game or at least I hope they did.

Just watched the film of the last drive.....

1. Why was Vereen not on the field??????? DUMB!!!!
2. On Apps 2nd play of the drive...

#4--Lewis...lost contain...didn't keep outside free...poor
#20--McDowell...LOST in no man's land....poor play...and both look clueless....

3. 1st and 10 Appy State....2 receivers right...TE to left...

13 & 22 blitz....13 stops 3 yds in and looks confused....
#8 Martin is caught between 2 receivers and obviously doesn't know his assignment...which is the flat underneath out patterns for this Defensive play call...so he just floats out there clueless....

#34 Kirkland picks up his man--the slot receiver....and covers middle 3rd of the field....

#24 Kelly has to roll over to cover his deep 3rd of the field....

The guys look clueless--except for 22 Abernathy...and 24 kelly....and 34 Kirkland...

allow a 13 yd gain when the QB had to throw the ball all the way across the field into the flat from the opposite hash mark.....good call defensively by Shoop....

VERY POOR PLAY by 13 Foreman and even WORSE play by MARTIN...should've been a sack or an interception....only 2 receivers in the pattern....

That is not CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER play....

4. Next play...1st & 10.....Vereen still NOT in the game...

Reverse pitch....#9 Barnett caught napping....as back-side end responsible for reverses....didn't stay as deep as deepest man and contain....maybe fatigue....but POOR play regardless...

#20 McDowell--clueless again....runs himself out of play as he was crowding line in a fake blitz....but he still has to slow-read that play and keep himself in position against cut-backs and reverses....VERY POOR PLAY...

5. 2nd and 2--#13 Foreman once again....slow to react to slant...he definitely wants to keep everything in front of him and he does that fine...misses tackle anyway....

zone blitz called--DBs must be aware and expect routes broken off....not too bad--but this was Appy State receivers....Fla, UGA, Bama receivers and 13 is toast....

6. 1st & 10 Appy State....game on the line....we need the ball back....they're getting close to FG position...

Pistol formation....straight hand-off to RB to left....

#34 Kirkland standing flat-footed and not reacting to run action....even after RB gets ball 3 yds deep behind the LOS....Kirkland still hasn't taken 1 step TOWARDS the LOS....lays back passively and NEVER fills the hole and gets himself blocked out of the play....

What makes this play so bad by 34 is that the GAME is on the line...and he can't fill a hole or even take his steps toward the LOS???

Next play Sutton shows up and makes a play....

I know it's time to move on--but this last drive is why I say it is ALL ON THE PLAYERS and NOT the coaches....

EXCEPT--I want #50 Vereen out there when the game's on the line....

Also--when the GAME is on the line....very poor effort and a multiple breakdowns in the basic fundamentals of playing your position and knowing your assignment by guys who should know better....

Watch that last drive yourself and look for the very basic fundamental mistakes....

Those things separate wanna-bes from CHAMPIONS....

I'm glad we won...and moving on....but the BIG EYE just don't lie....and there was PLENTY to GRIPE about on that last drive....poor, poor effort....

95 O'BRIEN did play well on that last drive
22 Abernathy played very well on that drive
23 Sutton saved us 3 times on that last drive....

:salute:

In the first drive Dobbs threw to Malone high. I don't think I saw a WR get hit in stride to make a catch and run. The TD throw to Malone was open the whole game to any number of WR, yet there was no attempt to throw to them. The middle of the field was open the whole game, yet the TE was only hit a few times. A WR slant would have been good too. I think that they should have used the short to middle passes (TE seam routes) on first down to open up the run and get Dobbs in rhythm. It would have worked better than trying to run every single first down play. The only time that they pretty much didn't run on first down was the TD bomb to Malone and the first down throw to Wolfe in OT. To take the next level and go to the SEC Championship game, Dobbs needs to get better at hitting his WR consistently in the numbers when they are open and in stride so they can put the D under pressure.

If Robertson doesn't whiff twice on that play, maybe Dobbs can set his feet and throw accurately.

ALL Non SEC conference teams come in to the game as if it is there National title game. We came in to the game as if it were a pre-season game and it did not count... We got educated... I don't think it will happen in Bristol, I think, believe and hope that we see the real Tenn Vols show up. Predicting a big win for our Vols. If we don't... we have a problem!!!

You are right....but Dobbs was running for his life most of the night in a straight drop-back situation...he didn't have time to throw those passes......

To take the next level and go to the SEC Championship game, Dobbs needs to get better at hitting his WR consistently in the numbers when they are open and in stride so they can put the D under pressure.

And his receivers have to hold onto the derned ball....Williams has to make those catches in traffic....

Both interior lines need to improve dramatically. Kamara not involved enough. Micah Abernathy can play...
