Post this on a fresh tread if you like, your site wont let a new member start one up without 20 posts! You think you got snubbed? Aztecs should be an 8. Here is a summary of what you have to tangle with.

Aztecs are very long and athletic - Comparable to Syracuse physically. Very stingy defense and one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Aztecs could beat anyone on any given day, especially if shots are falling. 40 minutes of full court press. Usually play a man defense with much switching due to all players being tall, long and athletic. The Aztecs are a mismatch for small teams

Starters

PG - DJ Gay. Playing pt out of necessity, really a SG. 6-2, court leader, not dynamic but plays under control. Good from 3

SG - Chase Tapley Freshman who is clutch, sweet stroke, makes few turnovers and shoots sparingly. plays great D. Has a broken thumb right now, play time is questionable

F - Billy White - 6'9 post player, can slash and plays lead full court press. long and athletic

F - Kawhi Leonard - 6'8 Freshman of yr in Mtn west. One of the best rebounders in the country. A potential future lottery pick and an absolute beast. 16 pts, 21 rebounds on Sat night. You will have your hands full

C - Malcolm Thomas - 6-9 Shot blocker, slasher, dunker and all around match up problem for a slower C

Bench

C - Brian Carwell - 6'11, 295 lb transfer from Illinois. Space eater, good feet, solid off the bench monster

G - Kelvin Davis - 6'4 3 pt specialist.

F - Tyrone Shelley - scorer but prone to turnovers and defensive lapses.

Thats is short bench.

Overall, you all are going to have your hands full The starting 5 can play with anyone in the country and are used to playing many minutes. One achilles heal is Free throw shooting, one of the worst in the country, but has been better as of late.

Any questions?

Should be a good game. I'll be disappointed and enraged if Tennessee doesn't come out ready to beat SDSU down because of getting jobbed on seeding.

The matchups are there in the Vols' favor -- come out strong, focused and borderline pissed, and the game should be pretty easy.

The big question for me is whether the guys use this as motivation to come out and play hard, or play victim and pack it in.

I agree, I am disappointed with the seed. But we did it to ourselves. You should not lose by 29 to anybody.

You're obviously biased... Last week they were arguing whether SDSU should even be in the tourney (and most said no) and now you think they should be an 8? I want to know how Purdue gets a 4 after losing Hummel for the year. Siena should win that game easily...

Agreed. The number 6 by our name doesn't look to sexy, but the games ahead are as winnable as any when you are talking about a tournament of the best teams in the country.

SDSU will be an interesting matchup, but they have more to fear from us than vice versa. Georgetown is a winnable match up. From there, it's always going to be tough.

Obviously you think the latter since you picked SDSU to win in another thread.

thanks for the info. aztec troll. I'm sure you guys want some revenge from losing Tyler Bray.

I didn't know you guys ran an high tempo full court press. That works in our favor as long as we can ball handle. Its the slow teams I get worried about.

Look for J.P. and Tatum to light it up in transition.

Not really with Georgetown... They will beat every team in the country 9 times out of 10 if they are on their A-game, and in my estimation, have a pretty significant matchup advantage over us. If stale G'Town shows up, we can win. If sharp G'Town shows up, we're likely screwed.

But I digress. This thread is about the SDSU game.

I said it was tentative, and I said I'd pick them in more brackets than I picked the Vols... Truth be told, it's a total coin flip for me.

You take a look at the mental fortitude the team showed in the last loss to Kentucky then tell me convincingly they'll come out swinging.

Thanks for your thoughts on their upsides. Other than what you say about Shelley, what worries you?

We do press, but at the same time we play more of a half court game, only really run off steal opportunities. I think it will be a good game. Some over confident people on this board dont really get how even this matchup is.

I have seen Tennessee many times on ESPN, you have not seen SDSU. This game will go either way and we EASILY match up with you physically
