This is something id like to be seen done i really enjoy reading everything on here but it would be nice to have a thread devoted just to updates like on VQ, GVX247, Scout, Espn, Newspaper articles or whatever. I will start it off format will be Name of recruit, Class, State, position; and then publication.

’14 JUCO DL Jarran Reed
-OV to UT 11/23 per Rivals
"I'll be down to Tennessee this weekend for a visit," Reed said. "I'm ready to see the atmosphere and the stadium and see what it's really like." "They want me up there to help get back the tradition up there. They said they have a big need on the defensive line," Reed said. "It's a great opportunity, but I know I have to go in there and work my tail off to earn and a spot, whether that's on the first or second string. I'm just going in with one thing on my mind and that's to play to the best of my ability and get better every single day."

"I feel like with a few additions at a few spots they could be great," Reed said. "They've put up a real fight in almost every game they've played this year and it just seems like they could possibly getting over the hump and being something big."

"What's important to me is the reps," Reed explained. "I know that depends on me, but I just want to know who all is there and where they're playing. I want to play for great coaches to make sure I'm coached well. I want to play with a good offense and a complete team."

Reed may not be the only visitor from East Mississippi Community College this weekend as teammate D.J. Pettway may be in Knoxville as well for a visit. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive end and Alabama transfer was at Ole Miss last weekend for his first official visit. Both Reed and Pettway are scheduled to be early enrollees.
-VQ
I think Reed and Lamin are the top two options. Reed is playing really, really well this season. Lamin is a take because he's a three-year guy.

Pettway is a really good. I think Ole Miss is the leader there right now.

I think McDowdell may be behind a couple of guys right now. I think Heurtelou would be ahead of him as well.
-Fortenberry
Why isn't UF recruiting Reed since he signed with them originally?

Quote:
I don't know that Florida is recruiting any juco DTs besides Lambert (who is just that good) that I know of. Also, I don't think it helped that Florida signed the kid and told him he could get out in the summer and now he's back at East Mississippi.
-Fortenberry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

’14 JUCO DL Abu Lamin
"I already know about their academic support and they have everything," Lamin said. "I'm really looking forward to see the campus lifestyle and how the player's life is there and just being around the team. I know everything is else is just fine because that's Tennessee. Everything else is going to be A-1. "

"That game atmosphere is going to be my first college game that I've ever been to," Lamin said. "That's probably going to blow me out the water just seeing all that. It's crazy exciting. I've never been anywhere with 100,000 fans, period."

On talking with Butch and Stripling:

"They're telling me they'd love to have me and I have big opportunity to come in and play on a great team," Lamin said. "I've already heard about all the good juco players they have with Lambert, Blair and Weatherd and being a part of that group would be cool to start something new at Tennessee and build something up."

On talking with Lambert... his friend:

""He's been telling me that Tennessee is where it's at," Lamin said. "Lambert is my dog and when I hear that I'm like, 'Dang.' We've been talking and for him to say that I think that's really where it must be at. He told me that Tennessee is where it's at and to make sure I got and check it out."

-VQ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’14 JUCO OT Avery Gennesy
OL Recruiting...are we done or would they take Gennesy or another HS OL?
Quote:
They would take Gennesy. I think they want Bookser to visit.
-Fortenberry
He's legitimately interested in the Vols. Looks like Tennessee and Texas A&M are the two teams he likes the most right now.
-Fortenberry
"First of all, they're losing all of their linemen so they're going to need some help," Gennesy said. "It will be the first time for me going down to Tennessee so it should be a fun experience just seeing everything and checking out every aspect."

"It's very exciting because I know if I were to come to that school and take care of business I could start right away and have a good chance to play at the next tackle," Gennesy said.

On relating to GA Anthony Parker:

"He can understand what you're going through," Gennesy said. "Even though he's just a few years older than you he knows your point of view and can know what you're going through."

"School-wise, they need to have my major and I want to be able to set myself up for success even if football doesn't work out for me," Gennesy explained. "Obviously, I want to play right away because I only have two more years. Coaching staff-wise, how do they get a long and how are the teammates because when you go through tough times that's who you have to stick with the most."

-VQ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’15 TN CB Ugo Amadi
"It was very exciting," Amadi said. "The fans loved it even though they lost. They haven't won a championship since 1998 and they are still filling the stadium. They have diehard fans that's what I like about UT.

"The program is coming up. They are getting better game by game."

"I am pretty sure I will be back for another game," Amadi offered.

’14 JUCO DL DJ Pettway
Reed may not be the only visitor from East Mississippi Community College this weekend as teammate D.J. Pettway may be in Knoxville as well for a visit.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive end and Alabama transfer was at Ole Miss last weekend for his first official visit.

Both Reed and Pettway are scheduled to be early enrollees.
-VQ
Pettway is a really good. I think Ole Miss is the leader there right now.
-Fortenberry
"I think that's part of the reason Tennessee is bringing him in this weekend. The kid can play, no doubt about that. But, I think they are also hoping to see who Pettway is after the incident at Alabama. Seems like it's a two-way interview."

- Fortenberry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’14 TN OL/DL Charles Mosley
Some speculation that Mosley is being told to wait that he might not be a take right now is that true?

"He's a take."

- Fortenberry

Is Mosley worth saving a spot for if a JUCO DT wants his spot?

"I think so. He's a four-year player compared to just a two-year guy. They need to not only be more talented on the D-line, but get younger as well."

- Fortenberry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’14 GA S Cortez McDowell
“they never got down on themselves[.] for them to just keep fighting and take that game to overtime with a big team, that’s a big statement for a lot of the commits and stuff who were all there.

“that environment was probably one of the best ones that i’ve been in. It’s probably one of the top ones,” added mcdowell, who previously had attended games at georgia, florida state and georgia tech. “that game and the georgia-ole miss game last year were both pretty intense.”

“i was just going in to really just watch a good football game, and that’s what i got out of it at the end of the game,” said mcdowell, who chose the vols over auburn and georgia, among others.

“from the georgia game, that game was proving that tennessee’s on the way back up.”

“it was exciting,” mcdowell said. “there was a lot of people out there just having fun. It’s something i’m looking forward to when i get to knoxville.”
- 247
Cortez was also putting in some reruiting work (on Andrew Williams):
Quote:
“I was working hard on him (during the visit), because we were kind of up there together. We all drove up the same day,” McDowell said. “I was working on him pretty much all day. I’m trying. It’s, like, 50-50 with me and him. I think I’m getting to him a lot more now, and Tennessee’s got a shot with him.”
Also on Cortez:
Quote:
“I’m done,” McDowell said. “I’ve committed where I wanted to be at.”
- 247
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’16 GA RB Mecole Hardman
Elbert County sophomore QB Mecole Hardman has rushed for 980 yards on 88 carries (11.1 ypc) and scored at least two touchdowns in every game except the opener against Buford. He also has passed for 364 yards and caught a 31-yard TD pass. And he is the team's punter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’14 JUCO WR LaVon Pearson
"The talk of the General's Quarters for the past two weeks has been Lavon Pearson. The Feather River Community College wideout will be taking his first ever campus visit to Knoxville this weekend and coming into the visit the Vols are clearly the team to beat.

Pearson will be joined on the visit by his family who are making their way from their Newport News, Va., home and if he and his family like everything in Knoxville we'll be keeping a close eye on him Sunday morning to see if he makes an early decision as he's hinted at."

Lol, this thread used to be what the Hot Recruiting News! thread was used for. Honestly, we probably should start using that thread for that purpose again, instead of just posting when someone commits or decommits.

Every (most every) recruit has a thread and most of this info gets posted in those threads. Additionally, the recruiting tweets thread shows anything Twitter-related to recruiting, and, you have to be careful copying/pasting stuff from pay sites on here.

The copying and pasting hasn't been monitored very heavily

And i understand that however it seems there would be an easier way to get info out there instead of jumping in and out of different threads that pop out. in other words those threads could be for discussion about the recruit and this could be purely for information from VQ, GVX247, InsideTennessee, ESPN, newspapers... i agree however that the twitter and instagram is already made but i still think it would be easier to keep up with instead of placing all the work on Passedoutawake to do his weekly huge but very helpful update.

While I'm on this topic, someone actually used the hot recruiting news thread to post the latest news about the recruits yesterday. For some reason, the mods deleted the posts, even though they were on topic with the purpose of the thread. Is that sticky only going to be used for announcing commitments and decommitments? If so, the sticky thread's title should be changed.

What's a newspaper?

I'm obviously too old and unaware of these new technology trends the young people keep making up

I am strictly a reader on the recruiting forum and comprehensive updates like these and POA's are great. The player threads get muddled with off topic discussions very quickly and often times it becomes a private discussion / argument between posters.

Maybe one guy can write for the Offense and the other for the D?

couldn't agree more.... we don't need a thread just to tell us when someone commits.

I tried to do this before, and was told to just use the hot recruiting news thread. Now I just do the weekly recruiting update series

The person who posted in that thread yesterday used no links. (A rule of that thread). Also, all they posted was quotes of VN posters

it's for recruiting news and not just for commits. The purpose of the thread is to link to the post with info in the player's thread. That way there is no need to scroll through a bunch of mess to find the info and the discussion can take place in the player's thread. Problem is it's only good if people take the time to use it

Lol, yeah that was me. I copy and pasted all of the great info brought to each of the individual threads into the hot recruiting news like we used to so we could get quick updates without searching page after page of posts. They immediately started posting that hot recruiting news was for links to stories only & no conversations. The fact that I posted no comments & only the actual news story instead of just the link seemed to be irrelevant. Its funny cause the only thing ever added to the hot recruiting news now is that someone has committed even though by the time its added there its already old news. Anyway, it was all deleted.

I agree that it is only good if people use it, that's what I was trying to do. In the past most would post links to the updates but there where also just the updates posted. I don't know how to post a link from my phone so I just pasted the update itself. No comments, just the updates & they were deleted. Whatever is fine, I would just like to go back to having one location for these updates. We have a lot of great posters of excellent info. I hope we can utilize the central thread again.

Actually all I posted was the updates ron and wu & a few others had brought from a few other sites & sources. VQ, 247 stuff. No comments at all.

QB Blake Barnett

originally posted by wu-tang vol

“The experience this weekend was just overall awesome,” Barnett told InsideTennessee. “Yesterday, I got to tour the facilities and athletic offices and everything was very impressive. It was all state of the art. I was very impressed by it – big time.”

Loved the crowd. Liked that young guys got playing time. Thinks we will be back in no time. Likes the play calling and likes Coach Jake. Had a great overall trip.*

"It was a great visit. I had a great time and really enjoyed myself with coach Jones and the whole coaching staff," Reed said. "The facilities and the their goals and plans impressed me. They had everything planned out."

"Their goals and plans for life, they have plans for you after football and that's the main thing that's going to stick," Reed said. "The old players coming back shows loyalty. It means they have loyalty and they show it to the Tennessee Vols."

"They talked to me about having a real, big, athletic kid like myself," Reed explained. "I don't want to do anything but get better and that's one thing I think if I come to Tennessee I could get better as a player and person and I could help them out."

"They're at the top. They're going to be one of choices," Reed said. "They have something great going on. They have the staff and everything and you can tell that coach Jones is a great coach and it's unbelievable. I believe in him and I believe they have something good going on."

14 LB Clifton Garrett

originally posted by vol fanatics 518

No. 3-ranked inside linebacker Clifton Garrett (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) officially visited Ole Miss for its big victory over LSU on Saturday night. The 59th-ranked player in the country came away extremely impressed with what he saw in Oxford, Miss.*

"It was a great experience," Garrett said. "It's something special here. It was wild. I have never seen anything like it. The Grove was crazy."*

LSU has always been the team to beat for Garrett, but with his positive visit to Ole Miss, the Rebels have certainly improved their chances of landing the four-star linebacker.

Was "very impressed" and enjoyed his trip. Thought the atmosphere was "crazy."*

“This was a big time statement win for (Tennessee) coach (Butch) Jones and the program,” said Sawyer, ranked the No. 27 defensive end in the nation. "This might set a standard of how I feel about coming to Tennessee.”

About to start taking his officials. Loved our fan base and the love we showed. Talked with Strip and Coach G after the game. Says all of are coaches are "really fun to be around" and will keep talking to UT.*

The numbers always seem to work themselves out (I know that gets old, but that's the truth), but you can't afford to turn down quality defensive linemen, especially when you're losing six of your top eight or so.

I still believe D.J. Pettway is a long shot and how the high school defensive lineman situation shapes up will be interesting. But, it's still October and in my opinion still too early to worry about numbers.

Get the best players on board, especially early enrollee junior college players on the defensive line, and then go from there.

"*They are up there," Swinney said. " They run the ball a lot and that's what I want to do. And the coaching staff, they're trying to build a winning team and start some great things."
