still way early...one game in conf....4 games that matter agains UF and UK...win two of those, well, then things start to get interesting.....but nice to see us in the national pub...making next year's recruiting class a little more legit right? hope it's a sign of more good things....but let's don't get high on the horse...still not real deep, and the season just got started....

Is it premature? Yes . . . Are people starting to overestimate us a little? Yes . . . Can I blame people for being excited about having 10 wins by early January? No.

:D Way to premature. As hard as we have to play to win. I think the conf. schedule will take a toll. I hope we at least get to the NIT and with some breaks our way maybe NCAA. We are still have got to give a couple of years to bring in mor quality players.

You are projected an 8 seed in the tourney, which means Lunardi is ranking you around #30 or so in the country. I put you a little higher right now, at around 20- 25th and so I would make you a #6 seed. I like UT MORE than bracketology does right now, not less.

You need to go .500 in the SEC and I don't think it will be that tough. Realistically, in the East there is one real good team right now (Florida), one good team that could get better over time (Kentucky), and then a handful of inconsistent but talented and promising teams, like you and Georgia. The West is really just a bunch of inconsistent teams that always could give anyone a game, especially at home, but realistically over the course of a whole season I see Tennessee rising to the #3 spot in the SEC East, and the #4 or #5 overall and thereofre in the NCAA tournament.

The exciting thing about this is that at the end of the year, the Vols have as good a chance as they should due to this early attention. In years past the Vols have been overlooked, when they may have well been good enough to be a Tourney team...

Very good point. Perception now is very important in March.

Exactly which year were we overlooked by the selection committee?

Probably referring to 2002-03 when the Vols were 17-11 following the SEC tournament, and were 9-7 in league play. Their SEC record was the 4th best in the league and 3rd best among tournament participants after Georgia did not participate.

They received a first round bye in the SEC tournament due to Georgia not participating, eliminating what many feel could have been win number 18 against Ole Miss (14-15) in the 1st round.

The Vols beat Georgia Tech early in the season. In their last 10 regular season games, they beat #17 Georgia, #4 Florida, and #23 Miss State to finish the regular season 17-10 overall.

They lost in the 2nd round of the SEC tourney to Auburn (22-12, 8-8).

Alabama made the NCAA tournament with a 17-11 (7-9) record... after losing to a horrible Vanderbilt (11-18) team in the 1st round of the SEC tournament. Alabama lost to Indiana in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament.

I remember the stories in the newspapers about dismayed Tennessee players after not getting selected. They had all gathered to watch the selection show together. The team went on to play an uninspired game, losing to Georgetown in the NIT, 60-70, to finish the season 17-12.
