Tennessee unranked in Coaches Poll in week 2

As a practical matter* there shouldn't even be official rankings until halfway through the season. It's just something for media/fans to banter about. The Vols for instance will have plenty of opportunity to build ranking equity before the season is over when such things will matter.

*The only exception might be some of these teams that put up lots of wins but on weak schedules. MAC and AAC teams need all the poll love they can get.

This poll is all politics...the money has us as 7 point favorites on the road to the #14 team

We have the #1, #2, #12, #14, and #20 ranked teams on our schedule.

Guess what happens if we win all those?
Good chance we're rocking a National Champ banner and Heupel is having his statue built in front of Neyland...Hooker is bringing the Heisman home and every assistant coach on staff will be poached for Power5 jobs

Who cares? Just win games, baby.

If Tennessee wins, they’ll be ranked. If they lose, they won’t. Bitchin about not being ranked when your only win is Ball State is stupid.

Coaches pole participants list is telling.

Real impartial list of coaches that have absolutely no reason to rank the vols out of the top 25. I mean at the end of this season the 2 people whose opinion I value the most on how good the team is will be Butch and Schiano.

I think this week will tell us just how good these Vols are. Win and 8-4 is likely and 9-3 possible, with an outside shot at 10-2. Lose and we may be looking at 7-5, with 8-4 still possible. One possible advantage, I think we will have SEC refs. Last year we had ACC refs for this game and the bowl game, and I think they were only games where we had more than 100 yards in penalties called and the other team had considerably less, seemed a little questionable. GBO!!

Just cannot figure out the KY love. They beat a cupcake and get ranked, we beat a cupcake worse and don't. There is some $ changing hands somewhere. Don't like FL but hope they beat KY badly.
No way. I want fl to lose every game from now until eternity.

Other coaches like and respect Stoops. I think Heupel just hasn’t been admitted to „the Club“ yet

Little brother and I were just talking about this very thing.
I think it's a product of the out of conference officiating crews never having seen an offense that moves this fast.
Hate to point fingers, or even say it, but I think the refs throwing the 'tick - tack' flags like offsides, illegal formation, etc. was their version of "flopping" to get a rest.

I almost wish we could get officiating crews from the Big 12, Pac 10, or Mtn West where it's all offense and no defense.

We did just throttle a terrible team. Can’t expect a lot of love for that.

Beat Pitt
Beat Florida
Beat LSU

Then check in on the ranking.
