Rocky top is not out dated, it came out in 1968 or 1969. Some one had posted earlier that the words in the song makes other people think we are all hillbillies and rednecks... NO. it's apart of our states heritage. Is that something to be ashamed of? If you are ashamed of our country or hillbillie culture then GFTO and go to NY or Canada!!

It's probably recognized the most because it sounds soooo GAY! It's not hard to recognize the lyrics because they are repeated for what seems like, 2-3 hundred times! I would bet its not on alot of student's ipods....if it is, it's on there as a joke.:birgits_giggle:

You have no idea what you are talking about.

My Idea: Never give the male cheerleaders a microphone before the game. Always kills my adrenaline.

Born near Knoxville and raised in Tennessee. Never been a hillbilly. Why don't you go to Arkansas, if you like being a hillbilly so much.

Naw I have no ties to Arkansas my family have been in Tennessee since the 1820's. I was born in Tennessee raised near Springfield and we are country as cornbread over here and proud of it. Ask dolly Parton about being from east Tennessee and being a "hillbilly". You must look down your hoity toity nose at folks like me.

First drop the woo it sounds qu***ish, second black jersey when the game falls on halloween, third retro jersey like the ones with the orange on the sholders pads once a year for one of our rivals , that jersey was worn the 1st time I was in Neyland .

I can't recall if the rules have since changed, but those jerseys were in violation of the color rule

Well I would be a poser if I walked around here and try to like I was from California and tell everybody I was raised in the city. If you have ever lived in a small town where agriculture surrounds you, where families have been in the same place for generations , where everyone talks with a twang that's my home town dude and I'm proud of it!! If you grew up in the city that's fine but you will never understand the mentality of small town southern people. We are not uneducated so on and so on.

Yes. But I do know packers history before Reggie. Like Curley lambau started the packers as just a sandlot team or they tried to get former president ford to come play for the packers after college but he took an assistant coaching job at a ivy league school
I try not to look like a band wagon lol

No worries. I was just kinda curious. Most fans have family from the area, so I wasn't sure.

Why were they a violation?

It was a violation because it was deemed that there was too much white space too be a home jersey, and too much color space to be an away jersey.

And after writing that, it sounds very, very racist.

Is that still a rule now? I thought that both teams could wear their home unis if were both ok with it. So color shouldn't matter now....racist. :dance2:

I think we need to add another 15-20 onto the Pride of the South Band. I've noticed this year and previous yrs that our band is much smaller than our SEC rivals (Bama,LSU,Auburn,Florida, UGA,etc.) I have much respect for our band but we are not as loud as we used to be. I really noticed this at the MCB. North Carolinas band had the edge on us. Someone fill me in on this issue. Have we lost scholarships for band members or what?

I prefer quality over quantity, the reason the Bama band is so big is because they let anybody in.

At the Bama game this year I was in the student section and we had a game going on pointing out which Bama band player was out of step or not walking a straight line. It took a real interesting turn when there was a malfunction with the mics and we ended up getting a real clear listen on a saxophone player that was embarrassingly off key!

The Pride took the field next and nailed the circle drill. :loco:

Good halftime.

The band (at least when I was it) would love to play more FVF/DTF since they are our actual fight songs, but Rocky Top is what everyone associates with UT. Also doesn't help when the media people get to help with what to play in the stands. The Pride is down in numbers, but the problems can be found elsewhere. there have never been many scholarships, that wasn't what got people in. I wouldn't change any traditions, though, they are what makes UT such an awesome place.

What do you mean by that?
