Last time we played them was my freshman year in the 2nd round of the NCAA's when Albert King (Bernard King's brother) was playing for them. We lost.
That was the 3rd of 4 matchups. TN’s 2nd round game, but it was Maryland’s opening round game.

Then TN played Maryland in the 3rd round, loser’s bracket, game of the November 1984 Great Alaska Shootout to open the 1984-85 season. The one when TN ended the season going 4-1 in the NIT (losing to Bobby Knight/Indiana in the semis at MSG). Indiana lost in the finals to UCLA/Reggie Miller while TN smoked Louisville in the consolation game - the year before they won the NC.

TN hasn’t beaten Maryland since Dec 1963.

Don’t fret—Vols didn’t have basketball mastermind Rick Barnes on the bench for those other Maryland games 🤷🏻😏

Wow. We finally pay up for once to keep a nationally respected coach who keeps us near the top of our league and dabbles regularly in the top 10, but get this. Sometimes it feels like we don't deserve it.

He hates Barnes, anyone who supports Barnes, or anyone who supports the team while Barnes is coaching. It's been his thing for a while, now.
