Tennessee to hire Justin Wilcox (merged)

Yeah Dooley is definitely an offense guy. He played WR at UVA and coached TEs for Satan.

Dooley is a HC, although he will probably coach RB's, all the time he spent with Saban makes him a defensive coach and he will have a hand on D. Now bring on Chuck Smith!!!!!!! V,B

I'm not saying CDD hired the guy for one opponent, but he knew you had better get someone who knows how to stop convential offenses and spread offenses alike. This would be a very smart hire!

EXACTLY......Boise ran alot of DB blitz from a lack of speed but they didn't have the speed on the DL or LB spots like we do....he seems like a solid X and O guy....I think this is a really good hire IMO.

In a nutshell, he runs a more modern defensive scheme that can be tweaked effectively to stop the spread or a traditional pro set, somewhat like Bumpas at TCU. This is the type of DC Dooley wanted since we are up against so many traditional sets with a progressive infusion of wildcats everywhere. I didn't even mention FL's spread, but that goes w/o saying. Not an old fart DC.

This is him. His nickname is "Silverback" and he is 8-3 with 1 TKO. We got a mad man!

well, i gotta say, i know he wasn't our first choice, but i'm not disappointed. After reading his bio, seems like we got a pretty good coach. Let's see what he can do with SEC talent against SEC offenses. Good hire IMO.

Do we get Smith as the D line coach? I think we would be set for coaches except for the RB coach.

i agree 100% about lance and this might be the reason why we have CS in waiting. Good luck we are going to need it next year, when we get RUN OVER!!!!

i bet lance thompson feels gypped to lose out to this kid

He shouldn't. He has only been here one year. Tennessee didn't owe him the job. Kiffin was the one that screwed him over. Could have won a championship last year at Alabama if he wasn't lied to.

His base is out of a 4-3, but by no means does he stay in it or is it a traditional 4-3.

Boise has run a 4-3 as their base defense most of the time, but has switched to a 4-2-5 or 3-4 from time to time as warranted by the offense they play. Here's an example.

Per this article (Can the Boise State defense slow down the Nevada runninggame? - One Bronco Nation Under God) they ran a 3-4 variant against Utah State, but in the diagram you can see #92 as an OLB - although he is a DE in the Boise State Roster. Frankly, I think that is a role that JC Copeland would be PERFECT to play, floating in and out as LB/DE as circumstances dictate. I don't know if he is 'smart' enough to play it though.

I guess we'll see soon enough!

Truth.

YouTube - 2010 Fiesta Bowl Highlights

Fiesta Bowl vs TCU is just one good example. But don't let anyone fool you, thats no 4-3

Omg after watching this video I hope we get this guy! Imagine running that D w/ our talent! I hope this is true b/c I really see good things on D if we hire this guy! Also if we hire CS imagine our DLine in this overall D! That'd be constant pressure on the QB with the multiple LB's and DB's all over the place! I see good things guys!!
