I think it would be better with just one t.
Other sports franchise I can think of named after a person:
Cleveland Browns....although the uniforms have plenty of the color brown in them.
Buffalo Bills...not the same thing though.
Miami MagicJack (women's soccer team) comes to mind too.

Honestly. Sounds like an absolute waste of money. Subsidized by the NBA. Hope there isn’t a new arena in the idea. Nashville taxpayers pay a lot to fund these projects. Though if it does happen, love the name and very appropriate.
Nope, they'd play at Bridgestone mostly. But, also travel to Knoxville and Memphis for games.

Curious why you think it would be better with one t when her name is spelled with two?

It seemed a bit....tacky. If it's Tennessee Summit, it's the top of a mountain, with just a wink-wink tribute to the coach.
Yes, Summitt was the coach' s name. It seemed tacky. I'll admit I don't get the same feeling about the Cleveland Browns.

Hmm....I think if Paul Brown's name had been Browne, and I had been alive at the time the team was founded, I would have thought "Cleveland Brownes" was tacky.

I wouldn't rule out the old but magical Municipal Auditorium. Well located at the edge of downtown, smaller than Bridgestone but big enough, and would give the team it's own home relatively free of scheduling conflict. The AU offseason pro league is playing there now.

I get what you are saying and it makes sense.

I've heard that WNBA putting a franchise in a city that does currently NOT have an NBA team is the NBA testing the waters to potentially move the Grizzlies out of Memphis to Nash-Vegas.

After the way the WNBA treated their cash cow, Caitlin Clark, I don't see how they can possibly be successful in the future. They have made it clear it's a black lesbian league, take it or leave it.
