Good god those drops were bad.

All in the same spot, too.

Contagious
Clearly JG’s fault on all those drops. Held the ball too long, couldn’t read the defense, doesn’t know the offense, locked in on one guy, didn’t set the right protections....pick one excuse or all of em, both those drops were all JG’s fault. Always have been, always will be.

I believe dropped passes is the number 1 cause of Big Orange defeats in my lifetime. I don't see big time program receivers drop like ours. In the one Jones victory over UF guess what our boys did in that one. Held the ball and caught it.

You can put a track athlete in to block and run the routes and not catch it.
It is due to an unusual combination of elevation and humidity in the area. No one else in the country is faced with both in this combination.

In the passing drill, as both QBs received the ball, the younger QBs always seemed to get rid of the ball much sooner than Guarantano. He seems to have a much slower windup and release. Also, his passes seemed to stay in the air longer, as the younger QBS passes were thrown more on a line. JMO! Go Vols!

What? We win two more games withput drops killing drives.

Highest percentage of drops last year.

No the wrs were not the best group. Not by far. lmao
The team wasn’t really good enough to have a best group last year. Every unit was, at best, up and down throughout the year. The WRs had some games where they were difference makers and some where they struggled.

I’ve been a pretty vocal defender of Guarantano at times, but thought the same just based on the very brief clips we’ve seen. Hard to tell what kind of carryover that will have to game settings, though.

The WR group single handedly got us our two real wins of the year. If not them, then who?

I watched all the throws in slow motion. Both the younger QBs are simply throwing the ball a split second before JG throws. That could be due to the speed of the receiver, or the QBs preference. IDK. JGs release and mechanics look much sharper, tho. His ball just looks pretty. I don't think you can read anything into them throwing the ball a split second before he does tho.

JG has always looked pretty good in the low-pressure controlled environment of practice. We'll see if he's improved or not come 8/31.

Honestly what is going to matter is the spring game and how JG avoids pressure and if he steps up in the pocket.

If he can do all of those things and deliver the ball to the receiver right out of the break, we will be good and JG will have shown great improvement.

Yeah, that game at Auburn last October was awfully low-pressure. Same for game in November vs top 15 Kentucky at home....not to mention that second half vs Georgia last September when Tennessee was making a game of it due in large part to his 2 TD passes? How about that game at SCar when he completed about 70% of his passes for 2 tds and no ints? In all those games he had pressure to perform as well as he could, at a high enough level to give his team a chance to win, and he did.

FWIW Smith is freaking quick as can be.... looks to be in way better shape than he was last year. I would assume that is because they caught his issue faster this season. He has had more time to do conditioning instead of wasting it on having to work on recovering from his illness.

I agree. I would love to see him improve on that. I would also like to see more roll outs.

I certainly hope so. More rollouts could really help out. I trust Chaney will have us running whatever it takes to be effective.
Those rollouts were terrible. Cromp and JG are about the same athletically I would rather see more quick passes to slow down the defensive rushers.

Before, you know who, comes in here and blasts me about the athletic comment I’ll just say this... JG is better than Crompton but he had 2 walk ons in his OL so who knows.

Smith was in fine shape last year. He was never limited in S&C last year, just in contact.

I wonder how much his injuries slowed him down during the 2018 season. He hurt an ankle pretty early in the WVU game.
