Tennessee Softball

Phillips drops virtually every pitch and has to throw to first to completely nearly every strikeout. She is not a good defensive catcher at this point in her career.

She feasted on non-conference teams, but once SEC teams got video on her, she was toast at the plate. She’s hitting .204 in SEC play, with 2 HR. Take out the Florida series, the first weekend of conference play and she’s at .184 with 0 HR.

I expect both of those things to improve dramatically next year and I think she’ll have a really good career at UT. But there’s not a reasonable argument to be made that she should be behind the plate instead of Osbron, who has thrown out more runners, drops fewer pitches and is hitting .250 in SEC games.

They all feasted on non conference games if they were given an opportunity both defensively and offensively. And this includes the coaches. But having the threat of big hits from Phillips makes the other team work harder. Osborne’s at bats have been horrible. What happened to the motto of “if you hit, you play”? And all players go through slumps. Look at HANNON she went from hitting over .400 to .215. Then went 11-14 last series. If the coaches are benching people for hitting slumps, then HANNON would be on the bench long time ago. I believe that Phillips needs to be in that lineup

As stated Osbron has the arm but often has pitches pop out as well. Several of us on here in the games after Ally got hurt said that both Philipps and Osbron needed to get their mitt broke in or something because balls poped out every other pitch. More for Phillips but Osbron is far from clean. Osbron is not hitting any more that Phillips regardless of those feast you speak of. Actually I think both are going to hit better next year but they better or our next class is going to put some on the bench. I really like Osbron better top to bottom better though!

Looking like a rain out to me today. I don't see how they get this one in looks like rain and thunderstorms all day and night. Looks like about an hour or 90 minutes clear time and rain the rest. I don't know if they will try to play for an hour or so.

Rain will be gone in five minutes and then getting going. Another huge storm coming may be further away than I thought could get the game in before it arrives.

I don't remember Shipman throwing out a lot of runners but I do remember most teams not even attempting to steal on her. I just hope the acl tear does not affect her catching. Huffstetler has played some really good d at 2b but she never has shown or is showing any ability at all to hit college pitching. Parsons would problaby be at 2b but her d needs improvement (which will come I believe). As has been noted and I don't know if next years class meets the glaring need is right handed power it is a must in today's game.

They will have Shipman, Phillips and Osbron that are right handed power bats next year already, plus Ayala and Seggern that hit for power from the left side. Parsons and Hannon can both slap or swing away, though Hannon is 85-90% a true hitter now and Holcomb will be there for speed and defense. Any freshmen coming in are going to have a tough time pushing those eight out of the lineup, but it will be fun to watch.

Shipman should be cleared by the fall, though she likely won't chance it in fall games. Osbron didn't practice at all until January of this year, so a true offseason and fall for her and Philips will have them far above where they are this year.

3:38 for senior activities don't know if that will be broadcast on tv. Remember the only dirt on the baseball field now is the mound just for all this rain and it has saved a number of rain outs for them this year.

Rain stopped a while back. Fans are in the stands and the SR ceremony is only like 5-10 minutes. Did the teams send out for food or something?

Phillips seems to have been benched for those two pass balls while catching and guess coaches still ticked off to much to give her another chance.

Well, the difference there is that no one else on the roster has demonstrated an ability to even be competent in center field, so they weren't pulling Hannon.

I actually don't have any problem with Hannon being in center. She is above average and can cover the ground needed. She is the best we got. I also don't have a problem with her batting considering she has not played a lot anyway. If she is going to hit 2nd she has to be able to bunt the ball. I want her to swing away when needed and drive the ball a little more. AA just has not done enough to keep a full time starter role . I still think Phillips has to bat in about every game. We need some RH big folks to hit the ball ! I have no problem with Weimer batting more often either.
