Tennessee Softball

One of the problems with streaming television, those services like sling have the same deal. It takes a couple of minutes for encoding and buffering, so anything you’re watching online is actually 90 to 240 seconds late. And with the way commercials are fed into it, if the timing is a little off, the software automatically inserts an extra commercial, and you get even further behind unless you close out and restart it.
Thanks, I’ll try that next time. It was crazy, sccshortstop and W.TN.Orange Blood talking about homers, and my game showing 0-0. By end of game, my game more than half an inning behind!

It's early, but still fun to note where we stand nationally in some team stats. These were through March 7 and don't count the 2 Florida games.

Batting Average - .374 - #2 behind only Florida St
On Base Percentage - .468 - #1
Scoring - 8.06 runs per game - #4
Fielding Percentage - .990 - #1

Earned Run Average - 1.64 after the 2 games vs Florida, which will be about #20

So right now we are elite offensively and defensively and are very much above average in pitching. That's a recipe for a lot of wins. Let's hope having 3 legitimate pitchers will help us to avoid the severe drop off we had last year when conference play started.
Definitely fun to see stats that good. Last year, Matty and Caylan needed another pitcher to help, and now they have Rogers, a huge help. Plus, last year we were hoping 1 player would hit a homer, now several may hit homers. Wonder how the FL games will effect those stats, but no matter, we’re playing elite competition, and looking very good! GO LADY VOLS!!!

Yes and a minor mistake from hanging with FSU, being their outfielder made the play of the year!

We have been in need of the 3rd pitcher for several years now and maybe with these 3 and a handful coming in and losing Matty we will be better prepared. I love getting somewhat out of the slapping business and the long ball a weapon other than a killer. I really think HB and CS will be the key to our power hitting. These young girls are for real and getting the kind of experience early will help us a lot. Maybe getting Holcomb out of her slump helps as well since I think she is the answer in LF an AA back in RF. Ralph is high on Hannan and she showed out this series as well. JMHO as always!!

Yep, it would have tied the game, anything could have happened after that. In the JMU game, that pitcher got a lot of strikes getting hitters to swing at high balls. It looked like some of our hitters were aware of that, and didn’t swing, but others did. Also, Aubrey Leach is so impressive. Have you ever noticed what she does when comes up to bat? She surveys the field to see where all the defensive players are standing. Others may also do that, but I always notice her doing it. After the losses by our men’s and women’s basketball teams yesterday and today, it sure has been nice to see our TN softball team run rule, and shut out a hated elite rival FL!!! GO LADY VOLS!!!

Yes AL is the most seasoned and polished player we have in a long time if ever. I have watched her since she started as a freshman. I noticed at the start of her career she was always sitting practically in Karens lap and getting and soaking up what Karen said. Karen has said she is like a sponge and she is like a coach on the field. I don't know what her aspirations are when she gets the degree but she will make a hell of a coach according to Karen and Ralph. Even in her senior year she still is around the staff now. She can do it all and I would not be surprised if she gets 6-9 HRs this year. As they used to say she is a gamer!!!

Would love to have her stay with the team in any capacity, she is one smart, and fearless, softball player!

We have faced Barnhill, the FSU pitcher and the JMU pitcher that’s 3 of the top 6 pitchers in the nation at least. JMU and FSU Phillips didn’t play and that was Osbron’s first games. Can’t help but to be super excited going forward. Plus now Rogers has faced Florida and FSU two top five teams and the longer she went against them the better she looked. ( what is it with our left fielders tracking fly balls?!)

That outside screwball that is thrown to LH hitters does some tremendous curving off the end of the bat and going from high school and travel ball to college is so great. A newer player there has to get used to it and know when the pitcher is throwing that pitch. That is why I think if Holcomb has got the stepping out of the box habit cleared up she is our most experienced and best player out there. AA has looked a little timid in left at times last year and this one. That is why my teams I used an experienced player in Left. JMHO as always!

Oh yes, Hannon has played very well this weekend, her homer yesterday was a beautiful thing! Ralph said this weekend was like a World Series experience he wanted the players to have. Who is CS, can’t think. Also, Kaili Phillips is a powerful hitter! The new players are a big plus to our team!

It's encouraging that so much of the bump in offensive production is coming from FR and players who haven't played much in the past. The FR are really taking this team to the next level. Osbron has settled in her second weekend, and Phillips and Rogers have been stellar all season. The past few years, we've lacked a piece or two, but it looks like we've rounded out the roster and finally have a solid 3-deep pitching staff. This team is a lot of fun to watch and could have a special year.
Totally agree with everything you said. :)

Ah, of course, another fine offensive and defensive player! Now that you mention her, Phillips is playing third while Seggern out, what happens when she comes back?
I will make a guess but I think Phillips will be the DP and Hannan will sit as long as Bearden continues to hit and play Rf and AA to center. AAs natural position to me is RF but Bearden does not have the speed or range for center. We are in a situation now where we have some power and can move some people around. This freshman class are good top to bottom. Phillips has played well at 3rd and that will give Seggren an incentive to stay sharp. In old baseball terms you have to be strong up the middle and I think we are somewhat. Shipman and Leach and Osbron and the centerfield position is the question that eventually needs solved! JMHO as always!!

Ok, thanks for answering, I suppose it’s a good thing for Ralph to have so many good players to chose from for these positions. Today’s initial roster shows Pacini at DP, couldn’t Hannon continue to play if Phillips is DP, and Seggern is back at 3rd? I don’t really understand the DP designation, does it mean a player can bat, but may or may not play defense? Can Phillips play another position besides 3rd base? For me, I like Leach and Shipman where they are, that is where they have experience, and I liked Osbron’s play at SS. If you would change that, I’m sure you have good reason. Guess we’ll see where everybody goes when Seggern gets back, at least all the player choices are good. :)

Also, we started the first game with FL and their big time pitcher, and AR was nervous and replaced by Matty, and no one knew what to expect, it seemed like a nervous time for our team, but then, KP hit that homer and opened the floodgates for us for that game, and maybe the whole season. Now, anything’s possible. GO LADY VOLS!!!

To be brief I really think if Hailey Bearden continues to swing the bat and hit she has to be in the lineup somewhere. She is a senior and played quite a few games.

Absolutely, she’s playing great! I was looking at the roster, and she is on it, Pacini was DP, was wondering if Phillips could take Pacini’s spot at DP.

Nevermind, I don’t understand the DP designation, so I will look it up. Obviously, HB, CS, and KP must all play. Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it. Have a good night.

Actually before Seggern got hurt Phillips was playing in right and was fine loved she was always ready to try to throw someone out at first on single. So when and i hope soon Seggern comes back I assume she will go back to right an Bearden can go to DP. Phillips has surprised me at third she has a good arm and range. I just wish Bearden would have come awake two or three years ago, they always talked about her practice power and now we see on full display

I was interchanging Phillips and Bearden. Bearden could very well be the DP. I still think the key to he outfield is Holcomb!
