Tennessee Softball 2026

Offense is again the downfall of the team. If they figure out some way to score runs we'll go a long way even all the way. We lost 2 to 1 twice to Ole Miss and several other one run losses. Hoping with all this time off they can come up with a lineup plan that can at least make us a better offensive team.
I would like to see them drop Dodge out of the one to the three. I'm ok with putting Knight back in the one as she has a high enough obp to get on base and the speed to score on an extra base hit.

The Tennessee pitcher comparison will also be a surprise to some.

If TN has a hitter sitting on the bench, they need to play her, and yes, I’m thinking of Makenzie Butt. I like Knight, too.

They can either play Butts at first, or Dh. They can do this by moving our current first baseman to third, taking out our current DH, or removing Knight from the outfield and replacing her with our current DH.

I don’t know how, you’ve thought this out, but they need to find a way to play the best hitters to back up our pitchers.

Elander did that at one point to shake things up. It was noticeable because he had 3 different catchers at various positions one game. It looked as if the idea was whoever hit best in batting practice was starting.

It's the situation that's rough, as you know. The write up is not inaccurate imo. But we can change!

LVs have great pitching. But we've gotta give the arms some run support. To win with bats, too. And also not have our arms in never-ending high-stress situations (not that they don't handle it well), but I think they will throw even better.

Dodge, Butt, The Twins and after them Knight then it gets a little inconsistent. Morrison and Holley are freshmen they are average hitters this year think next season is when they will break out big. Emma is inconsistent can go 4 for four and then 0 for 15 next three games. Faw and Rutan anything you get out of them is a big bonus.

No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers (42-10)

Record vs. top 16 seeds: 10-4
Record over last month: 6-4 (-2 run differential)

It's okay to say it: Tennessee isn't a particularly well-rounded team. Among the title favorites, the Volunteers have by far the worst offense. They're 96th in runs per game, 55th in OPS and 44th in home run rate. Only two regulars (left fielder Alannah Leach and second baseman Ella Dodge) have an OPS over 1.000, and in 10 losses this season they've scored just 1.4 runs per game.

That tells you everything you need to know about their pitching. Karlyn Pickens (13-7, 1.52 ERA) led the Vols to within one game of the WCWS championship series last season, and in 2026 she has been arguably surpassed by junior Sage Mardjetko (12-2, 0.96 ERA).

Pretty much says everything we have been saying all year at least since the start. How you can have this good a pitching and not have more offense is a disgrace. This is our tradition so I guess Karen is fine with it. We could win it all but we won't. A lineup with Faw and Rutan is not serious for a contender.

You left out this part of the article.

“Even third-stringer Erin Nuwer (14-1, 1.09 ERA) shut out mighty UCLA in February. You have to score on Tennessee to win, and even the best lineups in the country have struggled to do that: The Vols held Alabama (twice), Nebraska, Florida State and UCLA to one or fewer runs at least once.”

If you have to depend on your pitching staff to hold every team to 0-1 runs in order win you will not advance very far in postseason.

Walking and hitting batters got us in trouble today, but the offense came through. Number nine hitter for them was out of the batters box in the inning they got the three run homer on that hit she got. No one called her on it. Took the bat out of Butt's hands with two on base. Never easy to win offense got us enough.
