Tennessee Softball 2023

Completely agree if we hit like Oklahoma but we ONLY have 3 hitters hitting over .300 on the season. In the post season every run matters. With Ashley on the mound 1 run wins games. To complain about a good decision to try to score in that situation is crazy because that’s only 1 out in that inning and what about the other 2 outs in the inning. We still didn’t get a hit to score. It’s tough to have confidence in any hitter outside our first 3. If you want to sit around waiting on a home run good luck with that. Become a Georgia fan that’s what they did and how did that go for them. Karen keep winning and bunting to move runs into scoring positions and let’s see another squeeze today and put the pressure on the defense.
My only reply was runners were already in scoring position. It was not a squeeze because the runner did not commit to going home. No one is Oklahoma. There was no pressure put on the defense. Don’t change how we have won all year.

SMH, sorry I guess I should’ve said a safety squeeze. Kiki was close to half way down the line and when the 3B checked her back the reason she didn’t go at Kiki was the SS didn’t cover the bag. I was referring to moving runs in general into scoring position not on that play because we don’t have team speed and we don’t have aggressive or smart baserunners off the bench, so we need to put runners in scoring position.

There was no pressure on the defense. It was a basic bunt and not even short. It was a very basic play for their 3B to make.

Her team won the SEC regular season and tournament. She is doing something right.

And that’s great, but now the goal is to make the WCWS for the first time in eight years. So don’t have your team overthinking things. Let them play to their strengths and don’t try and get cute.

I can agree with that the problem is with our team once past cleanup our hitting production drops off quite a bit. Let Rylie have her swings.

A backhand on the run isn’t a routine play and if you have speed on bases and put a ball in play that’s how you put pressure on a defensive. It’s not by hitting a routine fly ball. Minus Kiki, Gibson, and Puni - HR and RBI’s totals, look at the rest of the teams production. My beat is that’s why she called the bunt with Kiki’s speed on third. Why that call was a smart call is because she is the SEC coach of the year and just got a contract extension. She must be doing something right. 🤦‍♀️

Win with that got you there. There was confusion either by West, Kiki or both…or even Karen.

Hopefully we don't have our cleanup hitter bunting today with runners in scoring position. If you have a player batting cleanup one of the most prestigious positions in the lineup and you don't have faith in them to swing away. Why you got them batting there for? I was totally against bunting with runners in scoring position unless the hitter is a slapper then you might have to try it.

They’re not exactly smart people. They know absolutely nothing about baseball/softball. They just drool over Saban.

I despise Alabama as much as the next orange-wearing fan, but Alabama supports its softball team as well as anyone in the country and they know a lot about it. Going to a game there is a great experience.

Just wanted to say, before the game, that I have complete confidence in Payton to get it done today. It is obviously a high pressure game. Our hitters will have to score runs and our defense will have to play as smart and tough as they possibly can, but Payton is a confident pitcher and a true competitor, and has won many games for us this season. I am so happy we have her.

Exactly. I have to wonder whose bright idea the small-ball silliness actually is. Karen's? Or Ralph's? If it's Ralph's input he needs to hush. No need for him to re-insert himself into the head coach position. I couldn't help noticing the program fared better this season.

Well, according to one poster in earlier discussion, Karen is the head coach. The program fared better in spite of coaching this season.
