I hope DeBord takes advantage of it. Even though Bama had 3 picks against TxA&M, their secondary is much more vulnerable than their run defense. The Vols' taller receivers like Williams, North, Jennings, Malone, and Pearson should create match-up problems for the Tide's smaller CB's. Whatever DeBord has planned offensively, the passing game could decide the final outcome.

I think Sumlin's offense is a little more productive than Butch. North is hurt. Pig is gone. The WR corp has been a huge dissapointment.

And yet, you start a thread that UT's WRs should have an edge against the gold standard of talent and successs in the SEC, and a HC that specializes is preparing DBs for the NFL. Umkay.

we will need to be successful passing to have a chance to win the game. There are a couple issues with us though that have a better chance of impacting that success and play calling is not one of them.

Can the offensive line keep pressure off of Dobbs? Alabama is going to stack the line and come after Dobbs and the running backs. They will force us to throw it.

Can Dobbs throw accurately enough to have success? There were several catches against Georgia that WRs made on poorly thrown balls. Alabama will take advantage of poor throws. Even though we may have size over their DBs they will man up on us and stick like glue.

those are two critical questions we have to answer that is all on us.

Dobbs and our O-Iine has to play near a perfect game if we want to come out of Tuscaloosa with a win.

Kyle Allens picks were not under duress. Just poorly thrown balls. So as long as Dobbs doesnt throw pick 6s and incompletions at worst to give punter a chance to flip field. It could get interesting. As for your statement about receivers. Our group maybe slightly more heralded but Ridley is a gamebreaker. If you follow this series Alabama only needs 1 really great receiver that given Saturday.

OP, Bama is 2nd in the SEC in pass defense and opposing QBs have a 51% completion percentage which leads the SEC. So no, I don't agree with your premise.

Bama's secondary is good but there are areas we can attack/exploit. The WR group played well last week. I think Preston could have a come out game. He's got the talent and is starting to get more opportunities.

We just have the protect Dobbs well on their blitzes.

Not to mention that they have 4 pic 6's which leads the nation. No other school has more than 2

This is the first time that we take the field and the other team be more talented. That means we are going to have to develop a game plan to exploit their weaknesses and enhance our strengths. In other words, we need to win the coaching battle.......

TAM has a much better, much more productive, and more talented WR corps than Tennessee....2 of their best WRs, Reynolds and Seals-Jones are 6'4 and 6'5, and Bama just grabbed 4 ints, 3 of which were pick sixes.

Jackson, Fitzpatrick, Jones, Humphrey...all of these guys are very good and I don't think you can look at mstchups and say we have mismatches. Our guys are gonna have to step up big time and build off of their collective performance vs UGA...it's gonna be a tall order.

Bama gives up 187.2 yds/g passing, but only 77.3 yds/g on the ground. So you're saying we have a better chance running the ball? Can't understand your reasoning.

OP, for the record, Bama will have the best Defense Vols have faced except, maybe for Florida, its a tossup. The only way to pass the ball on Bama, if your QB has enough time, is pinpoint accurate passes, which are not Dobbs specialty..

Even with 3 pick 6's I think the aggy QB was accurate, those three throw really were a 35 point swing, I take that back, they probably would have missed more field goals, still big swing of points.

I feel confident we will not throw 3 pick 6's.

Our receivers will get open, and they will catch the ball.

We are coming for you Bama!

Go Vols!

FWIW, Alabama is 9th nationally in pass efficiency defense while we're 62nd in pass efficiency offense.

Most of our receivers are significantly taller than the cornerbacks they face, but how many times has that made a difference this year?

Agreed. The only way to soften up the Bama run defense is to hit them deep. We have the size to win the 50/50 balls, but we've been to scared to even try. If we continue with that trend we'll lose on Saturday. It's just that simple.

We have the horses at WR, and we must lean on them to offset Bama's smothering run defense.

Those Pick 6's were just horribly thrown balls. Allen just flat out guffed up the whole game, because had he been on target, that would have been a much different game. They might have still lost, but it would have been a tight one.

TAM has no run game and that is why their safeties were able to drop back in coverage.

I know this is about WR and their secondary but the key to MOST games is running the football. We have been able to run the ball on any and everyone that we have faced. Hopefully this keeps up.

If we run successfully i think the passing game will take care of itself. We have to be able to get the edge on this defense with DHK.

Hard to argue against this.

Against Bama we are going to have to use a ton of misdirection plays. I remember back in the glory days of the 90's when we had some stout defenses, but smaller school teams, like Air Force, were able to stifle the defense with a lot of misdirection.
