Tennessee Should Be A Cautionary Tale for LSU, Others

No just means the next school doesn't have to pay as much for him. Talk about the ultimate black Friday deal!

The agreement states that if Miles gets buyout money for being fired without cause, he “has the good faith duty and obligation to seek to obtain similar or related employment,” and that LSU’s financial obligation to him “shall be reduced … to the extent of any compensation (Miles) earns, receives or is entitled to receive from any third party” after his termination date.

I still don't think the losing season was the end. I think it was everyone seeing Cutcliffe come back, watching Tennessee's offense suddenly revive, and then watching it fall apart when Cutcliffe left for Duke. The perception became "it was Chavis and Cutcliffe that made Tennessee competitive in the 90s" rather than Fulmer. That "coach as CEO" stigma is a hard one to bear if you start losing. I mean, I guess the losing season shut the door for him, but short of getting back to 10-11 wins a year, I don't think he was long for the job after the Cutcliffe changeover.

Really, had he just not dropped two Ls that year, he would have probably made it through to the Tajh Boyd era and righted the ship. Just should have picked a better OC ... oh well.

Fulmer was a great recruiter and I agree that when he had Cut and Chief things were really good...I do think part of his problem also came from the resurrection of Georgia and Spurrier going to South Carolina...we really recruited those states well and it got much tougher to pull the top kids out...a head coach has to constantly reinvent himself but I think Phil was pretty comfortable...

Some coaches need to be fired, but fans here on VN and in other programs are way to quick to call for a firing. Nature of the beast, I guess.

Crazy, there are plenty of programs that would snap miles up in a heartbeat. I'm sure they think there are better options, and they are more than likely employed. So you take a chance that you can lure them with more money. Keep in mind they just watched you can one of your most successful coaches ever. And I'm sure some of the people they covet think Miles is a better coach than they are. Way too much downside in my opinion. Things could be A LOT worse. Take our word for it.

Personally, as a humbled Vols fan, I think ANY school thinking that 9-3 is a bad enough season to fire their coach needs a little humbling themselves. If they can Les I hope Butch pays him 3 mil just to be on staff. That is a pipe dream, but I truly hope LSU, after firing Miles, sinks into the gutter of the SEC for 10-20 years. Looks like that's what it'll take to teach those clowns that they have no God-given birth right to win the National Championship annually. Maybe then the next time they go 9-3 they'll appreciate it.
