I don’t know exactly if anyone else has spotted it and what it is that is starting to happen…but this fast style of play is in . The rest of the SEC will have to respond because they will see you are about to see an Arms race in the SEC.
In the near future you are witnessing most likely A dominate Tennessee sec East and a dominant Ole Miss sec west. Same smash mouth sec. Same power… but it’s going to be faster. If teams don’t adjust then they are toast. Mike Leach is the only other SEC coach I see adjusting to it. Why? Because he kinda created it. Get ready.

I think tonight pretty much shows that other schools know how to challenge our offense: keep it off the field. Hats off to Vandy, they did a spectacular job staying on the field and keeping then scoreboard from lighting up. JH is a fantastic coach and can get us to SEC contention, but he’s got to recruit some solid defensive players to help get the O back out.

Vanderbilt sat on the ball when they were down 4 scores. Their entire strategy was to make it look close enough too claim that they made progress in year one. Personally I like it when our opponents admit that moral victory is the only kind of victory left on the table.

Vandy sat on the ball from the get go. Did you watch the 1st Q? If a couple breaks had gone their way, it would have been 21-14 TN at half. I’m not saying Vandy is a good team—they aren’t—but they came in with the game plan of keeping our O off the field. For the most part, it worked.

That’s the thing, it didn’t matter to them what the game situation was, they were laser focused on sitting on the ball whether it actually helped their chances of winning. If they were trying to win they’d have gone with a 4 minute offense that would give them enough possessions to mount a comeback, but they made no such adjustment, because winning was not the goal.

Wouldn’t you say they got a break when they hit the Hail Mary?

Valid point, but if you have a team with a solid defense and average offense who goes into a game against us with the mindset of “possessing the ball so TN can’t get it” like Vandy did, then OP’s point about our offense being a “shock wave in college football” will be mute very quickly.

Right. That’s 7 of the 14 I’m giving them. Take away the pick 6 and who knows how that drive ends up. So very likely the half could have been a 21-14 or even 17-14 game. But I’m not really gonna argue because the breaks didn’t go their way and we won, so I’m happy!

Well, the pick 6 was a good play by the defense. You can’t give them credit for their good plays but say “if they don’t throw the pick 6”....

My aunt could’ve been my uncle, but there were a few missing parts.

Lol… so if you take away a play we made and give them imaginary points, it would’ve been close?
