Is it true that the last 3 games against florida that we only rushed for 92 yards combined. If thats true, we have no chance. Everybody says we have to run the ball to win, but by this number, running the ball isnt the answer

how is it not the answer again...we didn't run the ball and got beat...if we run the ball successfully we have a shot at winning

we definitely do not need to get into a passing game with florida

The last three years shows what happens to the team that doesn't run the ball well.

So Tennessee, in order to win, must run the ball better against UF.

Yeah at some point these boys have to stop getting their butts whipped in the trenches.

That's false.

2006, Tennessee led the whole damn game and lost by 1

2005, lost by 9 and Britton Colquitt threw an INT.

2007, Tennessee laid down and let UF stomp them.

I think you missed the verb tense in my post. We have no chance of winning any of the past 3 games against Florida. They have absolutely no bearing on this year's game.

The OP was making a very strange and illogical observation that, because we could not run and lost 3 years in a row, running is not important to this year's game. Although we had chances to win at least two of those, the Vols currently have no chance at any. The comment was intended to be received with all of the seriousness and consideration I gave the original topic, which was none.

get positive yards running the ball and connect on some long passes. throwing it sideways against these guys will not work. run the ball, no penalties and connect on long passes. play the kicking game well and let the clock run and win it late in the 4th. kinda how we beat miami down there a few years ago. ugly is good for us. fast and up and down the field helps the gators. make them kick some field goals instead of touchdowns.
ohh yea, keep it close in the 1st quarter. no early meltdowns.

Is it also true that the rushing the last three years only have a small impact on the game Saturday, especially considering our offensive overhaul?

This year, above all others, the game truly hinges on our ability to run the ball and control the clock. We have GOT to slow the pace of this game down and not keep our defense out there the whole game.

This is the game where our offense will be our running game, no more testing Crompton's arm. The past two weeks have made our strength apparent, that being the running game.
It all starts up front with that top o-line.

I want to see us lay the wood to the uf receivers early and often. Make them afraid to reach for the ball.

Quote from Phil Fulmer: "I've made a really big deal this year out of physical play. We said going into the season we had to do three things to have a good year. We had to run the football well, so we wanted to lead the conference in rushing...We wanted to lead the conference in turnover ratio...We had to lead in scoring defense, and we were three tenths of a point from doing that." (UT bowl practice news conference 12/18/98)

Some things should never change.

Well, seeing as how they will probably have 7-8 guys in the box, we probably wouldn't get but maybe 4 yards.

True. But the last thing I want to see is JC miss his first couple of passing or take a sack the first set of downs because this whole forum would say "put nick stephens in". I think tennessee should stick with there bread and butter on offense and its not passing. Run the ball, milk as time as possible so that our defense is still able to walk in the 2nd half. Put the load on the running backs not JC.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on running the ball almost exclusively. But with that said, I'd call a play-action bomb first play of the game.

We're going to have to stick with the run as well. We very well could go 3 and out a couple times early while everyone is fresh. We can't get discouraged with it... and we really really need the special teams and D to hang in there, especially early so we don't get down quick. Unfortunately, florida almost always jumps on us in the first quarter.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Eric Berry and Percy Harvin on the same field this year. I'm not making any predictions or anything, I just think it's going to be some good stuff.

Heard on the Sports Animal coming home that our biggest running play in the last 3 years was for 6 yards.

We really need to shorten the game to have a chance. I don't think we will be pleased if we get into a shootout with them this season...
