Tennessee Ranked 17th in AP after week 1

My view is I cannot recall a drop as far after winning. People have a bee in their bonnet for us. They treated our win as if a loss, fell about as far as ND and OU did! lol

Okay men you made this bed and have to sleep in it. Team 120 what are you going to do about it?

We played terrible, there is no excuse for that. But App St wasn't the only one to leave points on the field. Our 4 lost points from what should have been (debatable on if it was but that's another story) a TD catch and their 4 lost points from their kicking game. Still leads to overtime, but we left points out there too.

True. I thought the PWilly catch was a TD. But we didn't play like a Top 10 team; we were favored by 22 points and barely won by 6 in OT. Bad losses like that generally cause a team to drop further than others. It really doesn't matter. Put up a lot of points against VT and get a statement win, and we'll probably move back up to 12-15.

ASU is not a good team when comparing them to P5 teams. They are light years away from the Houstons, BYUs, and Boise States. Here are their last 4 recruiting rankings. We can keep up this "they are a good team" mantra until Miami blows them out in week 3. The sad part is we could have blown them out by letting Dobbs pass deep. Guess the coaches don't trust him enough to pass on a mediocre G5 team.

ASU recruiting rankings
2016: 118

2* - 20

2015: 115
3* - 4

2014: 86
3* - 9
2* - 19

2013: 124

I don't see a lot of competition for those ranked above us this week. It's mostly cupcake week. The Arkansas-TCU matchup could be interesting.

1. Alabama hosts WKU
2. Clemson hosts Troy
3. FSU hosts Charleston Southern
4. OH ST hosts Tulsa
5. Mich hosts UCF
6. Houston hosts Lamar
7. Stanford has the week off
8. Wash hosts Idaho
9. GA hosts Nicholls
10. Whisky hosts Akron
11. Texas hosts UTEP
12. Mich State has the week off
13. Louisville plays at Syracuse
14. Oklahoma host LA-Monroe
15. TCU host Arkansas
16. Iowa host Iowa State

What a boring week of football. There could be some unimpressive wins in there, though. Other teams could do what we did and come out flat and uninspired in a game that doesn't impact their conference standing.

And LSU's coach is still trying to figure out what this passing game thing he has heard about is. :thud:

:eek:lol:

This is an example of a coaching staff being sold on a player to the point the whole ship goes down because they will prove to the whole world how great he is, when he isn't and can't get it done. Harris has failed at his position for years now and Les is going to lose his job, Fournette is going to lose the Heisman, over being bullheaded about Harris. Not to say Harris is a bad kid, he's just not a very good big time SEC QB. LSU will slide the rest of the season, hard to see a lot of quality wins down there.

Preseason rankings are all about how much "experience" your team has. They make no adjustment for sh!t brained coaching and lack of player development. We all know there is a huge difference between experienced players and good players.

In my mind we are now ranked where we should have been before the season. I think the media took our near loss as a chance to quickly save face and readjust their thinking on us as soon as they saw the hype wasn't real.

Beauty of playing in the SEC..all we have to do is win our games. Polls dont matter. As long as we make the GAME in atlanta...we control our own destiny as far as playoffs go. Win the SEC, make the playoffs. Honestly, we could win all our games and lose in atlanta and still make the playoffs with 1 loss. If we lose to bama regular season and atlanta...i dont think we get in.

Everyone comparing this to Michigan St. fails to acknowledge that Michigan State never trailed Furman and the game was never in serious doubt. On the other hand, while App State is better than Furman, we needed a fourth quarter comeback and then a very fortunate fumble recovery in overtime.

We are now ranked about where I think we should have been in the first poll.

FWIW - I do think there are some ahead of us that probably should not be there...but in the end, like others have said, if we take care of our business the polls won't matter.

Michigan St. almost lost to a bad 1AA team, Furman and stays the same rank. Go Figure. UT basically got more penalized for struggling on prime time with more people watching.

I don't blame the pollsters one bit. They just graded the work (exam) we turned in, so to speak. Who hasn't seen the smart kid in class be over-confident, not prepare and bomb a test?

I but the blame on the coaches for the very conservative game plan and for being too stubborn to change things up until it was almost too late.

Look at it this way, if we weren't ranked last week would the App St win propel us into the Top 20?

Rankings don't mean much at all this early. Plenty of chances to move up with our schedule.

I blame BJ for not having this team ready and for letting Hurd,Dobbs and whoever else take fall practice off. They just kept running the same 4 or 5 plays over and over. Tn don't deserve to be #17. Just think IF Tn gets up on Ga or Fla or whoever ,my money says BJ goes conservative and ends up blowing it. Tn don't deserve any respect until they beat somebody good.

A little lower then I expected...I thought more in the line of 13th or 14th.

That's exactly my thinking too. We wasn't playing a cupcake team at #43rd RPI. We as UT though are gonna get the shaft when it comes to polls. That's the way we've always been treated.

We shouldn't be ranked #17th after winning our 1st game against a quality opponent. If this was Bama or UF they would have stayed the same or lost no more than one spot.

Florida dropped out of the Top 25 after winning last week.

We only fell from #5 to #7 in ESPN FPI. GA actually fell from #11 to #12 and FL went from #19 to #28.

On Team efficiencies, App State is ranked #20 and we're ranked #65. GA is #26 and FL is #84.

We and FL have a lot of upside potential - GA, maybe not so much.

ESPN Football Power Index - 2016 - ESPN

Wonder what the hell that list was I was looking at?! Coulda swore it said FPI but obviously not. Oh well thought it was crap anyway with Fla up there. No idea what it was now tho
