Tennessee Ranked 17th in AP after week 1

Don't care, has not bearing on the playoffs and its the first week of CFB,..........lots more games to play.

Go Vols!!

Yeah, but it gives us a good bit of work to do to get into contention. Unless Florida climbs back in soon, we only have three Top 25 teams on our schedule (two if A&M blows it to Auburn, Arky or SC), and if UGA loses to Ole Miss, only one in Top 10. That makes it hard to climb.

But we could cause a lot of controversy by winning the conference championship with a ranking in the teens. :)

Michigan St. plays like crap against Furman, stays #12. Tennessee wins a close one against a good Appalachian St. team, drops down to #17? Seems pretty legit.

Stanford, Mich. St. and TCU all squeaked by far less competition and were no where near as penalized as UT for winning in OT vs. App. St.

Michigan State stays #12 after struggling with Furman

We are Tennessee. Change our season's slogan from "OWN IT"...to "BLOWN IT"...I kid I kid.

This team is better as underdogs....playing with a chip on their shoulders...they just gotta close out games with leads....oh and get the leads to hang onto....I'm just sayin':whistling::whistling::whistling:

They're basing the drop on how bad we looked, not how good we can be. We played very, very poorly against a team that was ranked #50. We're lucky to still be in the Top 20. We were a missed FG away from losing a game in which we trailed for four quarters. If we play well and beat VT, we'll get bumped back to the Top 15.

I don't see a lot of competition for those ranked above us this week. It's mostly cupcake week. The Arkansas-TCU matchup could be interesting.

1. Alabama hosts WKU
2. Clemson hosts Troy
3. FSU hosts Charleston Southern
4. OH ST hosts Tulsa
5. Mich hosts UCF
6. Houston hosts Lamar
7. Stanford has the week off
8. Wash hosts Idaho
9. GA hosts Nicholls
10. Whisky hosts Akron
11. Texas hosts UTEP
12. Mich State has the week off
13. Louisville plays at Syracuse
14. Oklahoma host LA-Monroe
15. TCU host Arkansas
16. Iowa host Iowa State

UGA works our well if we do our job. Going to Athens and beating a Top 10 UGA will put us right back up there as long as we take care of business between now and then

We played terrible, there is no excuse for that. But App St wasn't the only one to leave points on the field. Our 4 lost points from what should have been (debatable on if it was but that's another story) a TD catch and their 4 lost points from their kicking game. Still leads to overtime, but we left points out there too.

Wisconsin to 10? Okay

They did something at least. I have no problem with winners of quality matchups moving wildly upward early in the year. Those who lost to mediocre competition should fall heavily. Those who won in the ugliest way possible, ... hint hint, should drop significantly too.

Next Monday, nobody will remember this poll anyway, b/c it will all get shuffled again on Sat. All we have to do is win the next game, by a point or a blowout. All this fluff will blow away in the end.

In reality it doesn't matter what we're ranked right now. Keep winning and they'll jet right back up the polls.

I guess I expected a little more from Hurd after all of the off season talk. His performance was the biggest disappointment for me.

Me too.

Last year he'd get hit in the backfield and keep on trucking. Last week he didn't seem to be on.

Maybe it's a Thursday night thing. Everyone seemed kind of dead on their feet on the field.

My bad I was mixing lists. Two SEC teams ahead of us. In ESPNs FPI there are two east teams ahead of us. Ga and Fla.

Regardless were out of the limelight. Just play football ffs

We only fell from #5 to #7 in ESPN FPI. GA actually fell from #11 to #12 and FL went from #19 to #28.

On Team efficiencies, App State is ranked #20 and we're ranked #65. GA is #26 and FL is #84.

We and FL have a lot of upside potential - GA, maybe not so much.

I guess Appy State left their calendars in Boone.

Georgia has a freshman QB that can throw the ball down the field, our senior is still learning

THIS....right HERE. Texas, Georgia, FSU, etc all have freshmen qbs that are given the freedom to RUN their offense and throw the ball. Meanwhile our old school OC keeps a choke hold on our QB and runs an antiquated offense. Will it work to beat teams like Vandy, Mizzou, SC and Kensucky? Sure it will....but to be elite...you have to allow your QB the freedom to actually play with freedom. Until that happens we are where we deserve to be.
