Tennessee QB's are at a disadvantage..

Because of negative fans.. It should be obvious that the OL was having trouble blocking yesterday, which was forcing Simms to make some bad decisions. (Granted Simms did make a few bad decisions on his own..)

I believe negative fans were a big part of Crompton's problem (ie. death threats) and based on some of the posts on here it looks like it is already starting with Simms.

How about supporting your QB and allow him to get better rather than beating him down over something that is mostly out of his control.

If that is the type of fan you want to be, how about supporting Florida or Georgia and quit bringing Tennessee down..

Far be it from me to get in these guys' heads . . . but if you can't handle the criticism, you don't need to be playing QB.

It's pointless. Matt Simms doesn't hear me ripping on him from Colorado.

I'd support him if he weren't a fundamentally terrible QB.

Yea, good point. I guess I would like to hear...maybe CDD has said it, that Simms is our guy no matter what. Then I say lets get behind him....but he needs to make better decisions....it is hard when you watch this young team fight their heart out and he makes really bad plays....he is a tough guy and I think a great guy...he is doing the best he can....but I wish he could see the field better...but I am not very fair because I keep thinking Manning..and there was and is only one manning....:mf_surrender:

So, you're saying Simms hears these tiny voices in his head "sit down in front". No wonder he stares down his receivers. Inconsiderate fans.

Dont blame the O-Line for Simms inaccurately thrown balls. When there is no pressure on Simms he still continues to miss wide open WRs. So I dont think the inexperienced O-Line has to do with his poorly thrown balls.

death threats are the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I would bet that the people that were making them were passive aggressive little pv55ies. Criticism, critique, opinions, are totally acceptable. I think Simms should hear some of the things said about him as it pertains to football, getting better, and winning. I for one saw simms get better against some fairly stiff competition and under duress. I just want UT to get better and start winning some games. We were close to turning the corner yesterday and simms was a big part of that. We are close. We should be able to compete with LSU, GA, and USCjr.

Simms is obviously a work in progress. He made some good throws yesterday and some horrid ones. But he wasn't the reason we lost, and he is better than Crompton was this time last year.

Fans screaming for his benching are amusing. He's playing because he's the one the coaches see giving us the best chance to win. It really is that simple. When the coaches feel otherwise, someone else will play. Until then, fans can spout all the unfounded opinions they want, but it doesn't change a thing.

Uh, I highly doubt it. South Carolina looks like a legit SEC Contender this year.

I'm in the camp that thinks the fans do not noticably influence what happens on the field.

How can you make that statement? Did you watch Simms play in JC when he had no pressure?

Newton threw two picks. Gilbert threw 3. The difference was they won, against inferior competition. We lost, against superior competition. For every mistake, Simms kept us in the game. Although he had no business putting the ball in the air 31 times, he still did more than manage the game.

I would concur. You have to be able to throw the ball under pressure in this league anyways. This is the top conference in Div 1.

Posted in another threasd as well..
I am curious to see how well our receivers are running routes and the seperation they are getting. I think this is why Simms has held onto the ball too long at times. I am not saying he is great or anything but it would also help if our line could pass block. Those types of tangibles make Qbs look like allstars!

I was thinking last year someone slapped the dog doo out of Notre Dame's quarterback at a restaurant. Am I remembering that correctly? It's just part of big time football, comes with the territory.

i hope simms is so busy, he has no idea what fans are saying.....also there are plenty of positive things said about him on volnation, not all bad like it seemed with crompton

You are so right. Simms has started 3 games in division 1 football. When you got a young O-line things are not going to go right. Some fans who don't know football want to blame Simms,Dooley. Same fans were saying this team would win 7 or 8 games this year. You got to be real.

The QB is the leader ... on and off the field ... if you can't take it sit down because you are a liability to your team ...

Everybody needs to realize this team is talented but very young we will take our lumps this season but these players will be here a while

So in reverse I suppose your positive comments will lift him to be a great and effective quarterback. I would like to thank you personally for your important contribution to the team.

Yes and no, We have to protect the QB better, we have to get some type of run game going going, I don't care how many they put in the box, they do it every year. We have to have better play calling protect him, more roll outs and the like. not sure why we didn't try an end around something, and Simms has to Play better, I was ready for Bray early in the 2nd half, but really thought Simms finished the game well. I think Simms got better today, as did the team. If our D could have gotten any pressure on Brantley we could have won this game, that is our biggest weakness right now

How many true freshman QBs start in college?
Very few. Most coaches have never started one in their careers.
Usually when they do the player is head and shoulders above the competition on the team. We just don't have that.
This argument is a product of the impatient, instant everything, thumb twiddling, everything handed to them generation of our time.
