Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs has shown off a big arm in 2016

The Tennessee Volunteers have found themselves in several shootouts this season.

A large reason they’ve been able to stay competitive in those games is the right arm of QB Joshua Dobbs, who has been racking up touchdown passes of 20 or more yards.

In fact, Dobbs leads the SEC with 10 touchdown passes of 20 yards or more. No. 1 Alabama, on the other hand, has gotten just two from freshman QB Jalen Hurts:

The wild win against Georgia and impressive comeback against Florida helped Dobbs boost those stats, but he’s still been solid with the deep ball in other games in 2016.

The Vols will need him to make big plays this weekend against Kentucky in order to stay in the SEC East title race.

If you take away the TTU game and the hail mary, how many total passes beyond 10 yards does he have?

If you Dobbs was not in this year, wed be under 500.

That really says more about how underachieving this team is and not how good Dobbs is. Two of our three losses are directly tied to Dobbs performance. And the Appy State game should be on that list but by a miracle not of Dobbs making, Tennessee won that one.

I get USC but what other game are you putting on Dobbs? Alabama beat us at every position and the entire offense struggled with ball control vs A&M.

In all fairness to Dobbs, the only bad game that he's had all season long was the USCe game. That game he threw quite a few passes in the ground. I mean easy passes too. Passes that he normally NEVER does that for in such short-medium range especially the short ones.

I don't know what was wrong with him in that game but he certainly did look terrible. No doubt he was the biggest factor in us losing to USCe. However, the other 8 games this season Dobbs & Kamara has really carried us.

Hit the nail on the head here. There are games when your QB carries the team and games where the team needs to carry the QB. SCAR was an off game for Dobbs and he needed his team to pick up the slack. Hurd responded by pulling himself out of the game and leaving our 3rd and 4th string RB to carry the offense.

remember that was the point where all the HURD crap came to a boil. That has to be a situation that has worn on the team all year...Notice how different our offense looked the next game and people can say it is TTU all day we played flat against Ohio and Appy State both teams easily in the same zipcode of talent as TTU.

We have not totally dominated a team like that in years. To the point where you are starting to clear the bench before halftime. And totally shutting them out. Just off the top of my head in the last 5 or so Years I can remember maybe one other time we have had a game we dominated like that.

I know it wasn't your intention, but after the first 5 posts, it didn't take a rocket surgeon to see where it was going.

I thought many on here would find it interesting that Dobbs leads the SEC with 10 TDs over 20 yards considering his inconsistent play.
Guess I was wrong.

Over Chad Kelly? Something sounds fishy here. I am calling shenanigans.

Kelly has (had) 25 completions of 25+ yards out of his 205 completions. Josh has 17 25+ out of his 145 completions. Josh has 18 TDs; Kelly has 19. Dobbs has the highest percentage of TDs per completion in the conference.

And how about second half stats:

Dobbs
74 of 117 for 63.2%, 1090 yds, 12 TDs, 6 int, and 11 of 25+

Kelly
76 of 132 for 57.6%, 925 yds, 5 TDs, 6 int, and 7 of 25+
