Tennessee practice #3

Fans get excited when their team lands a big time player. None of us pretend to have ever coached linebackers. If you hold yourself out to be a fan of the program but can’t participate in any discussions outside of your boy? Too late on the fool thing.
No.... fans get excited when they land a HIGHLY RANKED player. Let’s not get it twisted because who tells us if he’s big time or not? The services. Unless he’s from your area it’s a safe bet that what THEY say is all we know. So if you’re like me and don’t trust what you can’t see, it’s easy to hold the excitement down to a minimum. When UT picked up the commitment from Shrout there wasn’t much excitement because he was only a 3*. Same with Maurer. However with JG it was pandemonium despite his 2* HS numbers. If stars rank talent and most people think JG is the least talented of the three after watching them play, what’s that say about the guys that pass out stars? 😕. In a lot of cases the only fools are the ones that believe them.

You have no interest in the team...just the position.

Or maybe my interest in the position was the catalyst that sparked my interest in the team. We all started somewhere. Some born into it, others took to the dominance of yesterday while some took to a player they wanted to watch every Saturday and stayed with the team. What you seem to have a problem with is anyone new, as if one reason is superior to the other.
Somewhere some young kid was flipping through the channels looking for a game to watch and stopped on the Tennessee/MSU game last October and said to himself “I want to play just like that” in reference to Maurer. That same kid, from that point on, KNOWS what game he wants to watch every Saturday since hoping to see him play again no matter who starts.

No one will ever question your commitment to this team. However, it doesn’t change the fact that the worst kind of fan is the one saying “there’s no room for you.”

They were all tougher than the two teams QD was OK against in GT and ISU.

QD was terrible vs UGA and UF. Average vs UMASS.

JG was better vs better teams. In every single stat.

Again, you don't know football beyond a stat line.... and even then you parse them to include only the ones you like. JG missed too many plays after taking over that season and either took sacks or checked down. That was a MAJOR reason UT's O was so anemic behind him and why UT won only one game behind him... a game against a bad So Miss team that was closer than it should have been.

JG wasn't "OK" in any of those games. Very consistently over his career he has processed too slowly and demonstrated an inability to visualize and anticipate throws. QD wasn't "good" either. The O wasn't great behind him.... just "better" than it was behind JG.

Your "selective" memory concerning UMass... is funny. Jones was determined to put JG in and almost lost the game by wasting those drives.

Personally, I don't feel CJP has any fascination with JG other than he played him out of necessity to win. My guess is that it JG struggles mightily, he'll go with a younger guy and keep him in.
Honestly, it looked like Pruitt spent most of the off season last year trying to build JG's confidence and coach him up. He pretty much violated his own rule by declaring JG the starter BEFORE the competition. They appeared to try to build the O around his perceived strengths. I think Pruitt was genuinely surprised by the contrast between JG in practice and JG on game day.

I think Pruitt likes to play veterans and will favor them all other things being equal. I think he knew JG was a liability in the passing game but not as much as Shrout and perhaps Maurer were in the run game.

JG has been working around some innate weaknesses for 4 years. He hasn't overcome them. The question IMO is whether one of the other guys has caught him as a manager of the O and run game.

I know rumors never tell the whole story but Shrout is a better passer than JG. If he's learned the O and can manage both the run and pass games... he could come out of nowhere and be the starter.

There’s room for ANYBODY who has a vested interest in the TEAM...that ain’t you. Someone following a team solely for ONE PLAYER does not stick around after that player departs. I know...because I did the same with the Colts and the Broncos! And I could talk to a fan about how Bob Sanders was the x-factor in the team’s fortunes and how Edgerrin James was a great player but was amplified in the Colts scheme because of his versatile talents...but they traded Marshall Faulk for virtually zilch. Virtually agonized over the Broncos losing Elvis Dumerville via late fax, psyched when they snapped up Wes Welker etc etc. I was bought in way more than you’ve ever demonstrated on this board yet I never claimed to be part of WE...because I wasn’t! Peyton left...so did I. I continue to monitor roster developments on those teams the same as I do all NFL teams because I’m a FOOTBALL fan sans the devotion required to claim WE status. Not sure why you continue to dodge this. Is it because you think WE will disregard your points on Maurer if WE knew that he’s the only reason you post on here? Too late! Anyone who pays attention knows. We used to have a poster who had a similar relationship with Nate Peterman. Not a lifetime QB coach but knew him pretty much his whole life. He’d jump on here and praise the kid and share stories and even though he was an obvious Gators fan, he was beloved. Doesn’t post anymore. That’s my issue with you. Never question your intelligence or credentials just the front you display. You’re not a new fan of the program...simply a lifelong fan of one player.
