Mizzou's game plan: take the air out of the ball and wait for Hansborough to break a long one against us. Perhaps get another cheap TD off a fumbled exchange from Dobbs. If we don't get some short fields via the return game or Mizzou turnovers it will be 3 or less. Prob a Baggett kick beats us late 13-12.
Look at the big picture. Vegas predicted the correct winner (look at opening lines, not gambler adjusted spreads), and does so with startling frequency. The point spread isnt important in the discussion of who an objective party believes should win.
I watched the BYU-Mizzou game. Takeaways:
- BYU has a solid coaching staff. They clearly figured out (in the 2nd half) that they were going to have to throw the ball against Mizzou to win.
- BYU has a good team, but they are slow, especially on defense. Our speed in the front 7 should help us against Mizzou.
- Lock is seriously talented, but he is a freshman, and will make freshman mistakes if you pressure him. We have got to get in that backfield and pressure him.
- Hansbrough, et al, is his security blanket. Take away the run, and make Lock beat us.
- We are going to have to throw the ball. Early, often, and likely for 4 quarters.
- Screens and flats will likely not work. Quick slants and crossing patterns.
- Move Dobbs, or the Mizzou defense will smother him.
- This is a game where I can see Kamara doing damage on dump passes and wheel routes.
- Our special teams will need to remain special. Expect Mizzou to have a plan for that.
- Aaron...buddy...you gotta be money in this one.
- No giveaways. None. Not one.
- Pick Lock off twice. He'll give us the chance if we can put them in a 14 point hole.
I can see this as a 14+ win, an OT coin flip, or a 10 point loss. There's nothing UT can do about what Mizzou will bring to the table, so we just have to show up with a better game, and a bigger case of "want it".
Go Vols.
Depends on which scenario the players prefer -- NYD in Tampa or Jan 2 in Memphis --- I sure know which place i would rather be.
I would not touch that 9 point line. Once their coach announced his pending resignation it skewed everything...
