I watched the BYU-Mizzou game. Takeaways:
- BYU has a solid coaching staff. They clearly figured out (in the 2nd half) that they were going to have to throw the ball against Mizzou to win.
- BYU has a good team, but they are slow, especially on defense. Our speed in the front 7 should help us against Mizzou.
- Lock is seriously talented, but he is a freshman, and will make freshman mistakes if you pressure him. We have got to get in that backfield and pressure him.
- Hansbrough, et al, is his security blanket. Take away the run, and make Lock beat us.
- We are going to have to throw the ball. Early, often, and likely for 4 quarters.
- Screens and flats will likely not work. Quick slants and crossing patterns.
- Move Dobbs, or the Mizzou defense will smother him.
- This is a game where I can see Kamara doing damage on dump passes and wheel routes.
- Our special teams will need to remain special. Expect Mizzou to have a plan for that.
- Aaron...buddy...you gotta be money in this one.
- No giveaways. None. Not one.
- Pick Lock off twice. He'll give us the chance if we can put them in a 14 point hole.
I can see this as a 14+ win, an OT coin flip, or a 10 point loss. There's nothing UT can do about what Mizzou will bring to the table, so we just have to show up with a better game, and a bigger case of "want it".
Go Vols.
