I had an epipheny the other day.. Who else besides me think that with the personal we have, we would do very well running Oklahoma's spread offense?

With Bray in the gun throwing to the likes of Milton, Rogers & Rogers, Moore, Jones, Meline, and Stocker why not?? Take an inexperienced line (just like Oklahoma's last year) and let them run an offense that won't require them to block for a long time.

Plus we have Oku who is the perfect running back for the spread offense.. Slip him a few screens and draws and he would thrive in that sort of offense. Plus Bray wouldn't have to think as much, just be a gunslinger like Bradford or McCoy.

Thoughts?

Well, my first thought is, how good did that offense look against Florida in 2008?

They drove the field pretty easily, if you'll recall. Two 4th down goaline stops were the difference in that game.

i think we needed to do that a long time ago. the saban offense only works with supirior athletes.. we need to run anything we can to win games...

How many of those recievers will still be there at the start of the season remains to be seen.

motion to include the fact (or idea) that Stoops led OU teams traditionally have tended to perform pretty poorly in BCS bowl games. (post 2002)

Actually think they've done decent with the exception of the USC massacre where they shouldn't have been there to begin with... and a West Virginia team that was absurdly underrated coming in.

What I remember is an offense averaging 500 yards and 50 points a game being held to 363 yards and 14 points.

Sorry. All those OU fans that talked endless trash about how they were going to drop 50 on UF still just bother me.

They got shut down.

But still, anger aside, the offense doesn't work without an NFL offensive line (like OU had in 2008) and a really good QB like Bradford.

With Bray in the gun

Am I the only one that thinks there is no chance of Bray starting this year. I know, he's the future and looked good in the Orange and White game. However, Simms is more experienced and seems to have a strong arm (according to recent reports from the Manning QB camp). I'm sure Bray will get some playing time, and might end up being the starter later in the season, but I just don't see him starting the first few games.

Mike Leach would disagree, since he installed most of it.

Exactly. Some shoddy Kevin Wilson playcalling and Florida's D line out toughing OU's offensive front inside the 5 decided that game.

first of all cdd does not run the spread, matt simms will be the starter, the o line is very young and we may not have enough recievers to even think about running it. cdd runs a pro set type offense and isn't going to change that. i wished we could run the spread but it will never happen.

it was more along the lines of Stoops just doesn't seem to do a good job getting his team ready for BCS bowl games. they've lost the last 5 he's taken them to

I've always kind of lumped the Boise St game into that category...halfway through the 3rd Boise was up on the Sooners 28-10. Yeah OU got it close again (I think partially the talent level difference and/or Boise mistakes let them back into the game late) but to get down on them that much that far into the game just always felt, at least to me, like he really didn't get his team ready for that game.

And several of their BCS games this decade have kind of felt that way

Demarco Murray >>>>>>>>>> any RB on the roster at TN right now

Landry Jones >>>> than any QB on the roster at TN right now

Ryan Broyles > than any WR on the roster at TN right now

Oklahoma's OL >>>>>>>>>>>> than Tennessee's OL right now

So no I don't think it would work.

What about Chaney's past offenses? Were they not spread like?

I've never really been a big fan of the spread offense. Its a high school offense so just keep it at the high school level.
