Tennessee now ranked 11th in recruiting....

Let me make just a few observations from an old man that has been watching Tennessee football for many many years. After reading post here on Vol Nation for hours and hours I get so discouraged. I get so depressed reading all the negative aspects about our program. Let me just remind everyone that there is an old saying that when you waller in the mud with the hogs long enough ,you begin to start smelling like a hog. In other words, we cannot keep getting ourselves and our fans so down in the dumps that we all eventually become haters and not supporters. WE MUST REMEMBER that players and potential recruits absolutely do read these boards just like we do. Actually, we can cost Tennessee recruits in the long run. I surely would hate to know that we are more of a hinder to our program than a help to our program. Lets all try to hang together during the tough times and make positive comments rather than so many negative comments. After all, all of us has the same goal and objective. To make Tennessee #1 , where it really belongs.

A word to the wise: STAY AWAY from the Football Forum right now. If you want a more accurate and sane point of view, stay in the recruiting forum.

Too many fans hyperventilate over the potential impact a losing season can have on recruiting. At the end of the day, for most recruits its all about relationships they build with coaches. Other factors come into play like playing time, conference, etc. But I can assure you that message board angst and the team's record don't play a very big role

I beg to differ. At least I have been told this by players.

So if we land all of the recruits coming in tonight for the game Saturday. would that give us 400 points?

4 stars...

5.8 = 110
5.9 = 130

(plus a few bonus points if they're in the top 5 or something at their position...i'm a little unclear on bonus points)

We would need to get 4 4star commits to get more than 400 new points.

I may be wrong on 4. I thought I saw in the forum somewhere that we had. Autry, Sentimore, Patterson and one other 4 star coming in....... May be wrong.

moving up with no recruiting activity on our end....solid. The only difference between a ranking of say #7 compared to #15 is one or two guys. Sometimes that one guy is all the difference in the world to get us back on top...

I think this is true, specifically over 4-5 years.

I think the haters stay out of the recruiting forum bc they know this staff is doing a helluva job recruiting and they can't say that they're not.
How many teams with a losing record are on the verge of landing a top 10 class? Nobody can deny how well this staff is recruiting the past two years.

He's the 13th ranked TE so I don't think he does but I could be wrong. I'm still uncertain on how bonus points work exactly.

There are three types of points that figure into the "N" value in the rivals scoring formula.

1) Ranking points (based on being either ranked in the top 50 JUCOs or Top 100 HS players)
2) Position points (for HS Players only)
3) Bonus Points (Average Star value for top 20 on your list minus 3, then multiply X 100. For ex. (3.37 - 3)*100 = 0.37 * 100 = 37 Bonus Points).

Position rankings are 24 points for the #1 player at that position, 18 points for #2 - 5, and 8 points for anything below that until the position threshold is reached. For TE the threshold is 20, meaning only the top 20 TEs get any position points. JM is #13 so he gets 8. (There are different thresholds for different positions. For ex. where only the top 20 TEs get position points, in contrast position points are awarded to 50 WRs.)

He is not ranked in the top 100 so no ranking points but our bonus points increase by 3 due to his boosting our average star value.

None of these points are directly additive to our score. They have to be plugged into the formula to get the rivals value.

If JM was added to our current commits right now with no other changes we would have a score of 1547.979 or 1548 as scored by the rivals formula.

it won't matter if these assistants (chaney,joseph and double h) are retained. they can't coach them up. keeping these guys would be like getting a brand new car and never detailing it to keep it nice and clean, inside and out. sorry, i like cdd, but these guys are a joke !!!

Ask Drew Brees if Chaney can coach. You are an idiot. Firing those coaches would ruin our recruiting class. Plus, I hope (and believe) Dooley is more loyal to his staff than to fire three coaches to make some idiot fans happy.
