Tennessee Now Playing With House Money

Xavier had a big man that knocked down some threes. We can beat this team. Keep picking against us every round without eating crow for your UVA prediction Vitale, Majerus, etc.

Well Xavier had Duncan who knocked down about 4 threes, and they had Cole who was an inside presence who could take it right at Oden and get to the line.

In order to beat Ohio State, sure our guards have to play well, but the real key is to effectively give Oden several different looks and different styles so that he cannot get into a groove, both offensively and defensively. Then, when he is not on the floor, we have GOT to take advantage of open driving lanes and we have crash, crash, and crash the boards.

Are you kidding?

Niagra, FAMU, TA&MCC, I can go on and on...getting into the tournament for teams such as these is a standard for a successful season...

No, I'm not kidding.

Small schools love getting into the NCAA and they may consider it a great achievement. But the standard for success for all but a handful of teams is reaching the sweet 16. That is the target.

I really believe this kind of matchup is bad for tOSU. Big men that can hit the outside shot? Oden is not leaving his area. Chism and Childress hit a couple and here we go.

GO VOLS
Yep... UT could open the game hot if they come out in that zone.

Yea, I think that is a big key. If Chism can hit shots from the outside. No pressure Chism...

As a newby just jumpin' on the bandwagon, I feel it's my responsibility to take issue with this attitude of playing with house money.

Pearl took a bunch of juniors at UWM on an upset run to the sweet 16. Sure, this team is young, but that doesn't matter to Pearl. Tennessee matches up well against tOSU, and Pearl is a exceptional motivator (perhaps the best in the country). Do you think this team forgot how they were screwed in the last game against tOSU or doesn't know about some of the questionable calls that allowed tOSU sneak by Xavier? I wouldn't hold it against Pearl if the Vols lost to an excellent OSU team, but I see no reason to downplay expectations here. Pearl will have these kids ready to ball. It's time to get excited!

What is "FYP", and why is my name attached to that post. I don't remember writing that.

As someone said, it means "fixed your post" and the reason the words are different in your quoted material is because I ....... fixed your post.

This season is definitely a success, but, if you were to pull up the preseason talk, you will find out that I called 20+ regular season wins and the sweet sixteen. I also said that UConn would struggle and might have said Duke as well.

Make no mistake, come Thurs. at 10:00pm, we wan't their butt.:boxing2:

This thread is saying the pressure is off. Pearl had to get to the sweet 16 to prove where the program was headed. Pressure is off now let us play.:clapping:

My dad and I were discussing this very thing on Saturday. Get to the Sweet 16 and you've accomplished the goals set forth thus far. Anything past this is gravy. Great job by the entire team. Freshmen on up to the Head Cheese. The only thing I could possibly try and be disappointed in is the lack of road success. That issue is balanced by a perfect home record, as well as a couple of at least decent road wins at the end of the season.
Agree completely - only other thing that I might add as a disppointment is our FT shooting percentage.

99% of the teams in the NCAA consider reaching the sweet 16 as the standard for a successful season, the Vols included.
i look at it like this.......getting in to post season play is like going to a bowl.....any bowl for anyone...it feels nice, even though it may not mean anything if you lose in the 1st or 2nd round...good season, nice job.

getting in to the sweet 16 is like playing on new year's day....you had a pretty good season, you've proven that you dont' suck and you are at least in the top 25 of all programs currently.

past the sweet 16 is like the BCS...the elite.

and the final four is the BCS championship......

so so far, nice job.....it's been a very good year. and whatever happens thursday night wont' change that.....
