Just like the article said, UT has never hired a top name basketball coach. When Pearl was hired no one knew who he was. He was a mid major guy who had won a lot of games. You think that is going to change, I hope you are right, I just don't believe it. Did Pearl make 2.5 when he was offered the job? What do big name coaches make? How much does KY, Ind, North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, and the like make? I think most of them where hired in at more than 2.5.

I would argue it's not nearly as attractive as we would like to think. It's just not an easy place to win with Kentucky and to a lesser degree Florida. As good as Bruce was, he still couldn't do great with Kentucky. That was even when Kentucky had some weak coaching going on with Tubby's last few years and Gillispie.

Pearl made more than Ben Howland at UCLA, made more than Crean at Indiana, and made more than Roy Williams at UNC. Try again.

I certainly hope he will get another job. My sincere hope is that everyone of his detractors on these forums will get to walk a few miles in his shoes one day.
I pray that the next time they screw up that they will be hounded by the media day and night. I hope they will be embarrassed, mocked and fired from their jobs. They say what goes around comes around. I have found that to be true.
By the way how many of you remember John Snow?

If your telling me that UT hired Pearl at a salary greater than these school hired their coaches. I got say I doubt your veracity. If your saying Pearl was making more after he made millions for the program, you may be correct, but I doubt that he makes more than Williams.

Yeah, the next time I lie to my profession's governing body, embarrassing my employer and badly sabotaging one of their multimillion dollar enterprises, I hope the media hounds me until I lose my job. That'll show me.

What the Hell difference does it make? They were willing to pay the basketball coach $2.5 million per year. I took his current salary with their current salary. Don't try to pass off this garbage that Tennessee won't pay a basketball coach.

The difference is of course we are talking about what TN might be willing to offer someone to come to TN. Not what they might make after they have been here for years and made millions of dollars for the University. I am stating a simple fact TN has never hired a name coach in the history of the program. Yet you guys seem to think now they are going to hire a top flight proven coach when they have never ever done it before. I think you are wrong.

That's ridiculous. You don't pay $2.5 million to any coach unless you're serious about winning in basketball.

Another post from another Tennessee fan about how everyone lies, everyone cheats, everyone's a bastard, and how you can't judge anyone because everyone's awful. It's depressing what garbage people Tennessee produces.

There has never been anything in my life that I would have been horrified for any of my employers to know. I'm certainly no saint, but I'm not a liar. Not everybody is a POS like everyone you know apparently is.

Ray Mears was a very good coach, I remember when he went into So Car who was ranked #1 in the polls and beat them on their own floor.
Bruce Pearl is the only excellent coach UT has ever had in the mens basketball program. The odds that they will get another like him are one in a million.

You kidding right. I don't remember calling anyone those names. However everone does lie, there is not a single person alive who has not lied, not a single person who has not cheated. Not everone is a bastard, however today it is not uncommon for children to be bastards. You are on very dangerous ground when you judge other people for you will be judged just as you judge others.

Give it up with this crap. No, not everyone lies, cries, commits 2 more violations, and then lies to the media about their players. It doesn't happen. Your hero is the only one. It says a lot about you when you hold up a piece of trash like that in such high esteem.

Cant speak about mears because i wasnt alive but i will say the quality of opponent bruce scheduled was slightly better than jed played.

Yes, they were paying Pearl 2.5 million, spents millions on renovations on TBA and facilities, but ther're suddenly going to go cheap on a new coach.

Really what were their percentages? I have been at Greens practices, he more or less just gave them a ball and said scrimage. I may have underestimated Ray and Green. I liked and admired Ray a lot. I met him on several occasions at Petes Restuarant downtown. I never liked Green because of his personality and some of the things he said and I still believe that he wasn't that good as a basketball coach even if in his short career he was able to win more than Pearl.
When Pearl was hired I had decided to quit buying season tickets because we had set through one miserable season after another. When they hired Pearl we said we would go for one more season to see what he could do. The first three years he coached were the most exciting since Ernie and Bernie. I will always remember those times. Lofton is my favorite player next to King. King is the best college player I ever got to see in person. Now I am back to being ready to give up my season tickets. If they hire a coach who has a really excellent resume like Pearl, I will probably go for one more year. But maybe not. I can always watch on tv.

I dont think thats being negative...in my opinion its more likely that they go mid major route instead of the big splash route. Hamilton has historically hired the lesser name guy. I will be pleasantly surprised if this isnt the case. My prediction the first yr salary will be 1 - 1.5 million/ yr. Total guess but gut feeling.

When I said everyone lies I was simply stating a fact. You lie too. If you tell me you have never lied you will be lying when you say it. I have no doubt that you have done thing much worse than lying. When you call someone a piece of trash, it says much more about you than about them. Sorry thats just the truth.
