Tennessee & Nico Iamaleava are in active contract negotiations ahead of the 2025 season

It's time to tell Nico to sit down and shut up, or show him the door. He has show much talent, but our offense was so limited last year, because he could only take in so much. It might cost us this year, but we have to let the team know if you want more, you do it at the end of the year, not spring practice. This is for the kids who realize they are not getting playing time. Next man up, we have been hearing good things about him.
I am not against Nico! If you could reganotiate your pay at your job. You would. It’s the effing NOL. it’s the devil!!

No they don’t go through practice and then hold out. They don’t negotiate a raise and then hold out for another before another game has been played.
I'm 2018 Jimmy Butler played in practice with a bunch scrubs and beat the starters to prove a point that he wanted to be traded and the other starters were trash.

More recently he got suspended a few times for dissing the team and insisting to be traded.

Because he can play, he signed a $50M/yr contract with his new team.

If you can ball, being a d*ck is possible.

I’m running out of ways to defend him. Rationally, I feel like this is part of college sports now. There had to be a first one to do it. None of us complained when we gave him a record NIL deal at the dawn of the NIL era. There’s ultimately no hard feelings afterwards when NFL players do this.
However, the timing is inexcusable. He took all the spring first team reps. I like Nico and think he’s extremely undervalued and unappreciated by our fan base. That said, I’m ok with whatever happens now. If he stays great, if he leaves fine. I’m approaching this unemotionally because college sports are no longer emotional for me because of NIL and the transfer portal. I enjoyed it much, much more when it was.
Unless the NCAA miraculously solves this problem, eventually college sports with have the same attendance and revenue numbers as the G league, CFL and minor league baseball. It was fun while it lasted.

Power 4 needs to move to a draft and forget about recruiting. Players should get collective bargaining and schools should have salary caps, the ability to franchise, fine, release, and fire for cause (contract players). Let’s stop pretending there is anything amateur about this. Want to be pros? Treat them like pros and tax them like pros.

He can’t come back after this especially being the second time. Almost feel bad for him, he's gotta be getting terrible advice.

Where could he honestly end up? Most playoff contenders are set at QB this season

Crazy but yes he was disappointing last year considering the hype, whether that is fair or not, it is true.

There were 6 qbs SEC better than Nico last year.

Unless he makes a magical jump, he will disappoint again this year.
Actually 8 better from the QB stats I saw. Maybe there are other stats I missed

At this point I just don't see him coming back. The fanbase right or wrong has turned on him.

This - if NIL really meant anything, the whole point would be to keep the fanbase because they are the ones that buy your stuff = money for the NIL.

But in reality this is just pay to play under a different name and the money from cookies or trinkets is nothing compared to what the athlete actually gets. These are not like NFL contracts for a TV commercial or a shoe endorsement.

Need to just make a contract with a direct payment - you violate it, its your ass. Sure, you can still collect NIL somewhere but good luck actually getting much in royalties unless you are in a big school with a fan base who actually loves you.

How many people would actually buy any Nico stuff now? even if he stays, we know he's just a gunslinger for hire.

I really wish if we were going to pay that kind of money it would have been for Arch.

This is a business now. Can’t look at it the way you used to. Guys are gonna go where more money is for sure.

Pay the man! You let him walk you will regret it imo. Some people think they know better than Heupel? Why not direct your hate toward him, he’s gonna do whatever he can to keep Nico

The Iamaleava's are just retarded. You had the AG of Tennessee sue the NCAA to help their son get paid and play for Tennessee

Nico got paid a million dollars just to RS his first year

Got paid nearly 3 mill last year just to be mid.

There was talk in the winter of Nico going to Miami and his dad downplayed it and gaslit volnation online.

Just the other day, the same dad called a reporter a liar and we still stood up for this family

What a dumb family. Nico had it made here and now, there is no telling if a team will really want him... this looks awful all around. Trust is huge and to pull this right before the game tomorrow is mind boggling

Hard to ask for more money when you haven't really done anything , he's not worth what he's making now, had he set the world on fire last season that's one thing, but paying all that money in hopes that he reaches his potential is insane, Your not against him? So your for him leaving for more money

Not saying he's beyond criticism but he's a kid
The kid part doesn’t play anymore, imo. He’s a legal adult that signed a legal contract that he and his reps/lawyers agreed to, were read the contents of that document and signed that contract as an $8M package. These are no longer little kids that should expect to be coddled. Now, this contract shopping may not be all on Nico, but if he even attempted to come back, he shouldn’t expect any fanfare and probably a very cool reception, if not outright indifference.
