Tennessee & Nico Iamaleava are in active contract negotiations ahead of the 2025 season

Top 10 Returning QBS

1) Guess who makes more than Nico (none)
2) Guess who's not on the list (Nico)

Is there a cheaper, better option? Let’s simply pay the lineman more. This approach worked well for OSU. Ultimately, we are running a business.

That’s the story I’d float also. Facts are his father is legally out. Nico is 21.

Bad thing is the $ spent on him is money they could use to bring in another WR, TE or DL.
Nico doesn't turn 21 for another 5 months and that's the closest thing to the truth in your first statement. I agree with the second statement in your post.

Nope I do not believe they could put those stats up next year + beat UF and Bama as a true freshman and/or a RS Freshman like Nico did. I believe they could with another year or two of development though.
Fair enough, agree to disagree. I see the potential for sure, but the play? Shew I sure hope our other QBs can average 187 yards and 1.4 TDs a game. JGs 2019 season is almost the exact same as Nico last year statistically. I know stats aren't everything, but yea I'm gonna disagree. I think Merk can do that now, if not better.

I think the contracts should be legally binding but some of y'all sound mentally ill expecting a first year starter to play like an upperclassmen while throwing around the $8M when QBs are getting paid way more now

I think I know how to solve this. Just have the NCAA put a minute salary cap equal to a full scholarship per player. If you want to voluntarily play football at an NCAA school, that’s all you get. As a member of this voluntary organization, you agree to no additional outside income. If you don’t agree, then go work out and wait until the NFL calls.
Period.
**** these guys.

College sports is officially dead. I don't care if this has any merit or truth behind it as a story. The reaction of the knucklehead faction of this fanbase tells just how badly damaged it is. I have stopped watching most professional sports because of the ridiculous amount of money they make and the massively entitled stances they take. It is all about me and forget the fans or team. I always said it would take a lot to make me stop watching or following the VOLS....this might be the kind of lunacy that just might do it.

These kids don't see the big picture. The best money that could be spent to help NI be successful and make to the Bigs would be to upgrade our OL and receivers. There's a finite amount in the Kitty. If he demands more, that's less for the rest of the team. I can't help but think that also creates animosity and division amongst the other players.

The ignorance in here is unreal. It’s not like the university is paying Nico, who gives a rip what outside money is spent? I say the more of it the better for us. Just leaving this here for the ignorant.

Universities do not directly pay athletes for NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals. NIL money comes from outside sources, such as companies or individual sponsors who want to use the athlete's name, image, or likeness for promotional purposes. Universities are not allowed to pay their athletes directly, according to the NCAA's interim NIL policy

I don’t guess you noticed the “talent fee” on your season tickets this year.

Time for this crap to stop. Giving Tee Martin a car was one thing. This is absurd.

Saying Nico isn't any good isn't accurate, though, and there's even less evidence that either Merk or GMac are any better. If fact, by virtue of Nico being the unquestioned starter, it's a safe assumption that they aren't better options. So what do you do? Pay a less talented guy less money to give worse results? It sucks, but this is the world we live in, and it isn't sustainable. It's going to crumble. Maybe in 2 years, maybe in 10. But this current trajectory has a flashpoint.
Let him walk, spread that money around the rest of the roster. He’s nowhere near what we have been paying him, let alone more.

Dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya Nico. You aint done a dang thang to deserve a raise. Hell Joe Milton basically had the same season except the playoff game which we looked bad as hell in anyways. Peace out!

The only thing that concerns me is if this has to do with him not being happy with the offense still. Like maybe the WR and OL situation still isn’t where he hoped

Otherwise, I don’t care if he stays or goes

If Nico leaves then Mike Matthew's will prolly be out as well
Nico is not going to leave because we are going to retain him. If it requires a more lucrative NIL deal to do so, then so be it.

Y’all may not like it, but it’s real. NCAA players get paid now.

The better questions at this point are how do we make the new model more stable, and how do we keep the playing field reasonably balanced/level. At least we have a huge fan base to pay for all of this. Just be glad you’re not a big ETSU fan.
