When we caved to Ricky Gibson, and when Nico saw the insane basketball NIL numbers floating around, this isn’t surprising. It’s annoying we’ve gotten to this point though. Just exhausting. And when we inevitably cave to Nico someone else on the team is going to do the exact same thing.

Yep. I hate this stuff as much as anyone. But every great program wants the "high profile" recruits.

And for all of these saying let him leave -we have McIntyre, Brandon etc... well guess what? They'll be trying to renegotiate too.

I don’t know what the truth is but like I have said all along “it’s always about the money.” If they are trying to renegotiate for more money I would let him walk. Zero loyalty to your teammates, coaches, school and fans. The other players are going to get resentful and will not play as hard for you.

I saw were Jake has looked very good this spring and the kid loves UT. He has been loyal and has never wavered even with all the 5-star QB’s around him. Start letting him take 1st team reps and let Nico and his family go shake down another school. JMO.

Did he watch his tape from last year? He made 2 Mil to sit the bench freshman year and last year didn't have any mind blowing games TBH.
I hope he stays, but if he is asking for more money every year then, let him walk. He is not the next Joe Burrow.

They've got to go to some kind time period on contracts. Whether it's 1 year or 2 years or whatever. But once it's signed, it's binding and there's no negotiation during the contract term.

Yeah he's not Hooker (so far), but it took 4 years of Hooker being in college to have the season he had!

Highly disagree. You don't think 2600 yards and 19 TDs is possible for GMac and Merk??? Then why the hell did we recruit them? Fact is Nico couldn't crack 200 yards against OSU, Bama, UGA, Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma. 11 of the 19 TDs against UTC, UTEP, and Vandy. I'm truly not hating, but his season was mediocre that's the truth. I fully expect our other 4 and 5 star QBs to be capable of throwing against UTEP and UTC.

I didn't say the statistical evidence existed that said he was good (a vague and interpretive term, btw). I'm just saying the implication that he isn't any good (read 'bad') isn't true. He showed plenty of potential as a freshman. If he were completing his 2nd or 3rd year as a starter, I'd probably agree that there wasn't much promise worth paying up for. And I don't like that he's banging the table for more money, but I also realize he holds the cards.

I think he's wielding alot of weight over being a frosh and having some limitations on WR crew. I do expect him to take that next step, but if he doesn't, there'll be others. I like Nico and want to see him develop, but he's going to put an unwelcomed focus on himself if he doesn't play to the hype. I'd keep my head down and rock out this year...we still aren't deep enough to run thru the SEC unscathed, and if this becomes a distraction, it won't be good for anyone in Vol camp.

He has played 1 year of college ball, to say he hasn’t or won’t meet expectations is premature based on one 10-3 season that made playoffs. You may end up right or wrong, but basing off 1 year is totally way to early. I guess you would have been ready to toss Manning after his freshman season as well. GBO

As much as I hate to say it-buh bye. We ARE NOT a playoff team this coming season

Nico has been a huge disappointment and his hands out family are getting a bit annoying.

Perhaps his brother at Arkansas will live up to the hype.

Let George and Meerk battle it out for this season and probably next. Whoever loses the battle is probably gone next year anyway. Faison coming in next season to take over after getting a bit of experience.

We are not in bad shape

Difference between 8 and 9 wins this coming season is just not worth all the nonsense.

Nope I do not believe they could put those stats up next year + beat UF and Bama as a true freshman and/or a RS Freshman like Nico did. I believe they could with another year or two of development though.

If these kids want more NIL money, maybe they should focus on being a great player that real companies, not shell companies set up by the university, actually want to represent their brand.

Ball out, stay out of trouble, have a positive image in the community and the money will flow.
