There should be no consequences for what Memphis did? Lie about how many on your team are vaccinated? Lie about the reason you can't field a team at the last minute? There should be no consequences for that?

I said nothing remotely close to that. I said people are being cry babies and are needlessly calling for the end of what could be a very entertaining rivalry. Yes, rivalry. If it weren't, we wouldn't be 27 pages deep in this thread and all of Knoxville would not care about what happens to Memphis. We all know damn well that not the case, and the reason this is such a hot topic to both fan bases is because of the rival nature.

Obviously you haven’t had to live down here with them for 40 years. If you don’t, you don’t have a clue how insufferable their fan base is. I hope Barnes stays till he’s 100 cause I’m pretty sure he won’t play them as long as he’s there.

Pretty sure that neither your opinion nor mine is going to make a bit of difference in this situation. The only opinion that counts is Rick Barnes and I’m fairly certain what his opinion of 1cent and that renegade program is. It is simple fact that we gain nothing from playing them and that they need us worse than we need them. It ain’t whining when it’s fact. End of discussion.

You, Barnes, and a lot of other people are whining about these things when we could embrace it and give the country a rivalry on the scale of Duke vs UNC. All of this drama is absolute GOLD for an in-state rivalry.

I would much rather Barnes/UT say "hey it doesn't matter, we will play you anywhere, anytime, and we will beat that ass." Instead, we get huffy puffy and declare we'll never play them again. That's some real weak shiz.

UT can take Memphis off and replace them with anyone Barnes wants. It sucks being a native Memphian that we won’t play Memphis, but I’d tell Memphis and Penny at this point to kick rocks. Memphis needs this series and the home game. UT does not.

I wouldn’t say they are cowards because they really needed this game. Pretty sure they would have played if they had enough players. The problem is their terrible mismanagement of the situation and flat out lying as well as the fact that that 1Cent lowered his reputation several notches by that he pulled after the game in Memphis. No excuse for the antics and petulance he exhibited. He doesn’t belong in the same arena as Rick Barnes.

Jayden Hardaway didn’t make the trip because of a graduation, Chandler Lawson & Earl Timberlake were also likely unavailable due to injuries. Nolley & Harris were the 2 that tested positive for COVID, unknown who is/isn’t vaccinated. However Memphis said majority of roster is vaccinated which should mean 8-9 vaccinated players, seems quite coincidental that all the injured players also happened to be the vaccinated players.

Careful. Someone will use that as evidence that vaccines cause rolled ankles

We can schedule 50+ other programs who are better for us to play and who cause less of a headache…that’s the point.

And I trust CRB to build a schedule that he thinks is best for the development of the team, regardless if the other coach wants to talk crap in the media. If indeed there are better options (which like yourself I think there are plenty better options) then build that schedule. I don’t generally think playing teams in the AAC is the best OOC games we can get and we for sure don’t have to H&H those teams. Have a few warm up games within the state like ETSU, UTC, etc then play the ACC, Big 10, PAC 10, and Big East. Again, JMO

They only needed the game if they had a chance to win. If you believe they were going to be as short-handed as is reported, ducking out of the game makes more sense than getting embarrassed on ESPN. Some may argue otherwise, but not playing the game is still better than a "good loss" for a team with plenty of good losses, already, but hardly any good wins.

The Memphis rivalry was already ruined once Penny became HC.

All he’s done is bad mouthed Barnes and chickened out against us last weekend. Personally, most of us are done with the excuses.

It’s not worth the effort anymore.
