Hope she signed up for the free throw shooting workshop. Not criticizing, just hoping she has her eyes set on becoming all she can be.

Needs a lot better mental game as well. Sometimes she gets out of the team concept.
think about this...how many times did Coop get the ball with less than 7-8 seconds
when you are the go to scorer, and you get the ball with the shotclock fading,,,you can't be thinking "who am I going to give it to",,,you have to be selfish and take high risk shots in that scenario
and that WAS OFTEN the scenario

She also took those "less than 7 second" shots in the first three quarters with 20 on the possession clock. Surrounded with a better roster, she'll need to grow out of that to elevate the offense.

And just, in general, to stop shooting long 2s! Shoot 3s instead!

i expect a much more mature and focused coop this year. she started her time at TN by being the star player for a brand new coach and had never carried the weight of her expectations or pressure as a college bball player. i see her being a total nightmare this year for the other teams.

Does anyone else feel like we haven’t been getting as much preseason content so far this summer?

We haven’t gotten any short practice clips in almost a month. No new player intro videos.

Hoping for some preseason updates soon.
Yes. Also hoping to get a press conference with Coach Caldwell soon. Coach Barnes has had a few throughout the summer. Also have heard from some players on the men’s side.

Agree. But that may just reflect different priorities for this season.

Last pre-season's priorities necessarily had to be introducing Kim Caldwell to Vol Nation, overcoming the perceived stigmas of hiring a "non-former LV" who had no P4 program experience, promoting season ticket sales, informing potential recruits and transfers about the system the Lady Vols would be running, and juicing up the program's image to further assist recruiting.

Last season required a lot of talk, video from practice, and face-time with the media. This season is all about producing success on the court.

CKC brought in a lot of talent, but they're all new to the system. And I get the impression that last season--only for brief moments in scattered games--did we get to see CKC's system operating as she expects it to run. So that requires even more in-house teaching time, broken up by relentless recruiting and showing up at recruiting targets' games around the country.

Also, regretfully, the incident involving Ruby really handcuffs CKC publicly. In the face of all this positive program momentum, Coach Kim Caldwell's next availability to the media will necessarily require fielding question-after-question about the incident, the program's culture, and its response. That will be the headline, the image, the video that dominates the news and for the moment defines the Lady Vols program until a new or better story comes along to replace it.

IF the staff knows that, as the legal system plays out, there will be a much better ending to this story when all the truth can be told, then they'd obviously want to wait until they can talk about the incident in that light. They certainly wouldn't want to have that publicized Q&A while some key recruiting commitments were hanging in the balance. No family would want their daughter's announcement, her national sports media debut, to be attached to or contextualized by Ruby's story as it is currently perceived.

So I'm thinking that, for reasons both good and bad, there's just little incentive this pre-season to have a high profile media presence. For now, it's a very Pat-like, shoulders-to-the-wheel period in the program's ongoing development under CKC and DW.

Thank you! Wonderfully composed response, considering the circumstances.

One thing I have heard...Mia is ranked highest, but Mya is shooting the 3 on a high click right now

And I do know of several who have worked off-season to better their skills
I'd been hoping that the loss of ranking due to the regrettable timing of Mya's injury and recovery would be turned into a "something to prove" response. That's wonderful to hear!

Do you know if we have a particular assistant on the staff who serves as the outside shooting guru?

Working with shooters was the most personally rewarding part of my limited coaching experience. So many creative teaching opportunities, working in that Reuleaux triangle* where technique, discipline, and "feel" overlap.

All of our coaches are very guard oriented. I think Roman works with shooting the most. He’s developed several very good shooters.

Delving deeper... are you talking about the shooting coaches contracted by individual players, or ones contracted by the coaching staff?

On second thought, maybe we don't want to have that conversation in public. Sounds like it might be one of those gray areas... and there might be NCAA contracted AI lurking and sifting through teams' forums.
