Tennessee Lady Vol News

I sure hope you're right. They have to be ready for our pace, and we have to be ready for their dominating size. Gonna be one of the most-watched games of November, I'm guessing.
The marquee match up may be our bigs against theirs. Zee developed and displayed some pretty impressive agility and I look for her to be key. Toss in Latham, Barker and Wolfenbarger and we will be a lot stronger inside.

Even so, we're more than likely to take a fairly sound beating early at UCLA, one of the most experienced, talented and longest teams in the country. I'm not saying Tennessee is not going to be good, but UCLA is pretty much a lock (IMO) to make at least the Final Four this season.
They were a lock this past season as well. They do lose a lot from their top 6 as well in Jones, Barker, and Aarnisalo. You also have to wonder how Kneepkens will adjust going from a primary option to a 3rd or 4th option. Corey Close will again want to force the ball to Betts, and she will not be able to do it alone against a team like Tennessee. I think we have a core group returning that can compete with anyone in the country, then when you add in the new additions, I think we win this game. I just don't think UCLA has the guard play to play 40 minutes with the Lady Vols roster this year, especially early in the season. They averaged 15+ turnovers per game last year and really struggled in that area against teams that applied solid pressure. They are going to face it for 40 minutes when they play us.

Honestly we all hope for an awesome season from the LadyVols but your expectations are wayyyyyy to high! Unfortunately they lost a bunch of 3 pt shooters. The highest % shooting of the returnees is Latham who shot only 31% which isn't that great. Kim likes 3s and even with the transfers and NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS you gleam about which is getting old . This team is at best no.7 in the conference. Based off on what other teams have done in the conference as well it's gonna be tough. How do you replace 36% 37% and 34% from 3? Not with freshman and certainly not the transfers who are not shooters. Last yr the non con schedule was fairly easy. And based on the rough non con so far this yr I'm hoping they make the NCAA tourney. Just asking for you to be realistic "D.J."

The national pundits are picking Tennessee as a top 10 team in the preseason and you’re saying Tennessee will struggle to make the field of 68. That’s a pretty wide gap in evaluation from the experts to a message board poster.

I would have scheduled easier, or at least more home games, but to say they will struggle to make the tournament is insane.

I made my initial post without even reading the write-up, yet it includes several of key details about not only Tennessee but UCLA.
Tennessee returns a significant portion of its entire team production last season in Whitehorn, Spearman, and Cooper. Latham and Boyd was two of the teams most active defensive players.
Even before you factor in the additions that’s a returning core that you build a championship team around which is highlighted in the article. Easy read.
The ability to recruit at an elite level in year 1 is where Coach Caldwell and her staff Lazo, Burdette, and Tubner have absolutely dominated WCBB. The biggest areas of need was extended depth and size.
It may seem hard to fathom for casual fans but you rarely if ever have a coaching staff achieve recruiting success to this degree in year 1. CKC actually may have been lucky to add the players she has which speaks to the brand of Tennessee WBB.
The portal and high school recruiting class is as decorated as any in recent years during the NIL and portal era.
Five McDonald’s All-Americans including Five 5-star recruits and Seven Top 50 prospects with five in the Top 20 (Three Top 10).

It’s really basic to understand.

Keep calm guys...Women's college basketball is about to know what real team speed looks like....

Don’t like this at all. Too many tough games, but also too few home games in the non-conference when you consider the opener in Greensboro against NCSU, at UConn, at MTSU and the Louisville game in Brooklyn.
Better early than later for such an attempt...right now the teams that can match us in depth and speed are the only ones who can threaten us,,,as time goes on lesser teams will begin to see a new defensive strategy for this type of offense, so I say, go ahead and strike while the iron's fresh

you'll see,,,the one you are calling out, Latham, WILL become a primary 3 pt threat,,,you heard it here!

you don't remember this guy from last year, do you?
He's right back in character

I love it for Sara that she's going pro. But her folks are probably worried she'll get over there and fall in love with beautiful Finland and want to stay! But then again, those long winters are probably not gonna on be Puckett's favorite things about Finland list. 🥶

I hope we'll be able to track down ways to follow her team -- at least see some highlights now and then. I'm really happy for Sara!

You worry too much girl. Always worrying about what people might worry about.

Sarah is from Alabama, she’ll have fun there but one Finnish winter and she’ll want to be home lol

Only about an eight hour drive to St. Petersburg.

kim is scheduling a pretty brutal schedule. definitely think you need to let this team have time to gel, a lot of new faces. we’re definitely going to be tested come SEC play and then obviously that’s always a gauntlet.
1752935740118.pngI guess CKC intends to mold this team while it's gelling.

Don't discount how much a challenging schedule ramps up the intensity for players in the months of pre-season preparation. The desire to not look bad on TV is a better motivator than any coach's whistle.

I wonder if there's a calculation in that regard, since CKC has already said she needs to dial down practice demands to leave enough gas in the tank at the culmination of the season?

Depends on how much she likes cow tongue and casual nudity.

My wife did an exchange program in Finland when she was in high school. Lots of stories...

Substituting "or" for "and" in that first sentence would inhibit many imaginations for the better. IMHO.

And if you've never tried cow tongue, you're missing out on a tender, tasty treat.
Whatever you're wearing.
