Tennessee Lady Vol News

Yep. The UConn game hasn’t been announced yet either.

I’m getting flashbacks of the 22-23 season 🤯
Yeah, but the 22-23 team only had 3 McDonald's All-Americans and a little sprinkling of mid-major transfer players, playing big roles. This team is built differently than that with 7 McDonald's All Americans, 4 of whom have major P-4 playing experience. If the freshman can come along, and they should considering the players they are going to be practicing with day in and day out, we should be in good shape. The only thing that concerns me would be some early losses that shake confidence. Still, this staff seems to have the ability to reel their players back in after big setbacks, seeing how the SEC started (close losses, Oklahoma, LSU, Vandy) and then ended (bad losses, Georgia, Vandy) last year and still was able to advance to the sweet 16 the hard way and were just a few broken plays from making the elite 8.

Honestly, I don’t get always finding a reason to be pessimistic.
If CKC scheduled cupcakes it would’ve been a problem too likely for some posters.
Last season’s S16 team beat Florida State, Iowa, Ole Miss, Alabama, Ohio State, Richmond, Middle Tennessee State, and UConn in year 1.
That team wasn’t like 2022-2023 and this one won’t be either because it’s different coaching and completely different LV teams.
For one, last season’s team could’ve won some close games in the SEC if Samara Spencer hadn’t suffered a setback leg injury down there in Florida. That pretty much changed how she played the rest of the season even though she didn’t miss any games.
That had a lot to do with the close loses in SEC play and the fact that Coach Caldwell coached a full year during her pregnancy.

Coach Caldwell finished her first season ranked in the Top 15 and advanced to the Sweet 16. She retained all core returnees and landed the #1 portal and #1/#2 high school recruiting classes in the country. What makes anyway on here think they know anything about how to put together a schedule that she doesn’t lol man this is hilarious.
And actually the schedule is still favorable for the LVs to pick up most of these quality early season ranked victories. They are better than NC State and Louisville. Evenly matched with UCLA both are projected Top 10 teams.

True. You make good points. I still think that team had more talent than a couple teams they lost to that year in the OOC. (Gonzaga is a good example).

If we get out of the non-con with a winning record (hopefully no more than two losses), we’ll put ourselves in a better position to host the NCAAs.

Starting off the season with a DUB vs NC State is important, imo. Hopefully it’s cupcake city from Nov 5th to the UCLA game Nov 30th.

Even so, we're more than likely to take a fairly sound beating early at UCLA, one of the most experienced, talented and longest teams in the country. I'm not saying Tennessee is not going to be good, but UCLA is pretty much a lock (IMO) to make at least the Final Four this season.

Honestly we all hope for an awesome season from the LadyVols but your expectations are wayyyyyy to high! Unfortunately they lost a bunch of 3 pt shooters. The highest % shooting of the returnees is Latham who shot only 31% which isn't that great. Kim likes 3s and even with the transfers and NO. 1 RECRUITING CLASS you gleam about which is getting old . This team is at best no.7 in the conference. Based off on what other teams have done in the conference as well it's gonna be tough. How do you replace 36% 37% and 34% from 3? Not with freshman and certainly not the transfers who are not shooters. Last yr the non con schedule was fairly easy. And based on the rough non con so far this yr I'm hoping they make the NCAA tourney. Just asking for you to be realistic "D.J."

The Lady Vols have historically performed well out West when they've had good teams. They didn't win all of them by any means but was a serious force. I believe it will come down to whether UCLA and the other opponents are ready for Kim ball. Tough draw early in the season if you're not deep and talented.

I sure hope you're right. They have to be ready for our pace, and we have to be ready for their dominating size. Gonna be one of the most-watched games of November, I'm guessing.

You lost me at “I’m hoping they make the NCAA tourney.”

They’ll definitely be in the tournament.

It's gonna be tough I think. If the core players stay healthy it betters the odds. But there will be lots of growing pains this yr . Last yr there were no significant injuries and for the most part stayed healthy. Just trying to be realistic. Even in other sports like football. The NY Giants are not making the Super Bowl and realistically their fans know they have no chance among the other teams in the league.

kim is scheduling a pretty brutal schedule. definitely think you need to let this team have time to gel, a lot of new faces. we’re definitely going to be tested come SEC play and then obviously that’s always a gauntlet.
Valid assessment! I try to be realistic about expectations which many in this group fail to do.

It's all about getting prepared for the big dance. We all seen what a good loss can do to springboard a team. I do agree that the SEC has enough to prepare for the big show. But UCLA will give them a look so they can learn how to handle a very big team.
