Tennessee Lady Vol News

Oof. Okay then. It appears to me that NOBODY in this particular photo in this partucular moment is looking happy to be there. Sure hope they were just tired ... or that it was too early in the morning for their comfort... or SOMEthing.

It's hard as hell going from high school to college, and we all know Kim's pre-season workouts last season were reportedly brutal. She has made comments recently that suggested maybe the staff would ease up just a bit this year after realizing they may have overworked last season's team.

I sure would love to know what these four young women were feeling and thinking when this photo was taken. Are they tired? Scared they may not have what it takes?

Anyone else a little worried about them? (Yes, it's ONE PHOTO in a series of photos that also show some smiles, but still ... )

Appear to be intently listening to the message. There is a time and place for full ranges of emotion. But trying to judge this pic without audio is a reach for us all.

No not worried but I bet Kim is running a boot camp she knows how to keep them liking her while she works the heck out of them.

To me, that's a familiar and encouraging look.

Their body language isn't tired. That looks more like they're getting a "today's practice logistics" talk (what we're gonna do/what I want to see) rather than receiving instruction or getting an install.

With male players, when they're not focused or not buying in, they get bored--which exhibits in being chatty or making little aside comments to each other. I'd be pleased with those expressions and body language. They look like old hands. (Which they are, despite their youth!)

Looks like they're listening.

I can't read minds or facial impressions. I expect they are in a conditioning break pausing for a bit before getting back into something like cardio training.

Rickster, Although as you wrote, you don't have such powers, I smile reading a comment(s) on interpeting from a social media picture the feelings, plans of another human being. During the last season several similar incidents on a player leaving because that estute boarder recognizes the "tells" of a player sitting on the bench.

🧠 Mind reading—at least in the real-world psychological sense—isn't about telepathy or supernatural powers. It's more about empathic accuracy, which refers to how well someone can infer another person’s thoughts, feelings, or intentions based on cues like body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions

🎯 How Accurate Is It Really?

  • Not 100% reliable: Even close friends or romantic partners often misread each other’s emotions. Studies suggest spouses may only gauge each other accurately about a third of the time.
  • Influenced by biases: emotions, cultural background, and assumptions can distort interpretations.

I think right now this forum is missing out on enjoying and living in the moment with arguably one of the most talented rosters in the SEC.
As a poster highlighted yesterday there was a post circulating on social media of Mia draining 3s. She’s looking really talented in practice videos.
Jaida Civil at 6’0 can grab the rim effortlessly, and she dunked in practice yesterday off of a lob. Once she’s able to grip the ball she’ll be dunking with ease.
Those are the things to discuss. I’m generally amused by the fact this board waited approximately 5 or more years for a great recruiting class to sign with the LVs out of High School featuring McDonald’s All-Americans and highly ranked players. Coach Kim gets 5 of them and now it’s all of five posters with any expectations for them because they’re just freshmen.
GBO🍊.

Cannot wait to see what Janiah Barker can do in this system. She was placed in a "proverbial" box last year at UCLA and we all know the mess that is Texas A&M (Joni Taylor) and the mental fatigue Barker must have felt there. College basketball has not seen her best yet. Her skill set and athletic ability are incredibly high, so having the ability to play free in our system should showcase how good she really is.

Nice read by Maria...

I think she has the highest ceiling in her class and as a pro.

Her skillset fits the modern, mobile stretch 4 prototype i.e. Candace, Stewie, A’ja, EDD, Lauren Jackson, Nneka, etc. I’m not saying she’s at that level now, but she has the tools.

100%. I am hoping to see her and Zee on the floor together a lot this season. Can you imagine the pick and roll actions that could be? Both 6-4, have good handles, both can stroke it from the 3, and both play at the rim when in the paint. I don't know how teams can guard that combination effectively. That is a nightmare scout for most teams in the country. I'm getting excited for the season to start.

Take a deep breath. 🤣 🧡
