Tennessee Lady Vol News

As usual, sports analysts on these Networks write these articles for clicks until they can’t anymore when these players in several months will prove this on the court. Mia Pauldo has had a handful of sports media analysts and recruiting service undervalue her ability due to reasons beyond basketball. Once everyone had to accept the fact she was a package deal with her twin sister her rankings dropped. As a sophomore/junior Mia was ranked as high as #7 in her class. She finished ranked #9 in her class. Mya also was ranked in the 20s before falling down to #57. I’m willing to bet if they had shown interest in perhaps picking different schools and had gone on separate visits etc. Mia would’ve ended up in the Top 5. The players in the Top 5 have all played on the same court and neither one has ever separated themselves from Mia as a basketball player. Rankings involve a certain degree of politics. It’s harmless though Mia is the one of one PG in her class.

Glad to see Deniya Prawl on the list, but leaving Mia out is totally ignorant. Especially some of the names I see in that top ten. Chavez is a shooter not that great on defense Mia had her number in the All Star games broke them ankles a few times. I really think Davidson might be the number one player.

Four different ranking sites so how you determine who the top ten player are by this? Everybody seems to have their own idea who they are. I guess you can surmise that most of the same names are all top 20 players.

The largest network is what gets recognized which is why people reference ESPN Hoopgurlz. I look at 247Sports Rankings as valid as any of them in rating players.
Point is, there is an element that gets slanted by the numbers or rankings based on where some analysts covering the sport project the top players to end up in college. And let’s be honest, some analysts are fans of certain colleges.
I know atleast one Top 10 player in the 2025 class that I watched multiple times. Skilled but who never stood out on their own team (AAU, All-American, or HS). Not to say this player is not a Top 20 player or 5-star prospect but their ranking seem to be weighted by the fact they committed to a school ranked in the Top 5-10 in WCBB with a veteran coach. No way the recruiting service analysts were ever going to drop this player outside of the Top 10.

Asking for my next door neighbor ......do these rankings mean a "hill of beans " ????

Could be just the angles shown here, but Kim Caldwell appears to have quickly gotten her body back to pre-pregnancy form. Pretty impressive. And she has obviously been out enjoying some sunshine with that tanned glow. Good for her! She looks like she's feeling terrific. 💪🏻😀
I noticed the same. Queen Kim looks refreshed and rejuvenated. If that's the case, I love it for her.

I have a feeling she's going to take a big leap as a coach this fall, and be in convos for Conference and NCOY.

I tried to find a list of how many votes each coach got for 2024-5, but never found a list for anyone's COY award. Just curious how many writers/voters had CKC on their radar last season.

I really wished Rickea had a chance to play for Kim
I have thought that same thing many times. But I have to say, it certainly appeared that Kelly Harper handled whatever team chemistry/locker room issue was going on early with Rickea perfectly. Good on Coach Harper and Jackson for how they each dealt with it. 💪🏻🧡

Lovely mural. Catchings is my #1 fave all time, which says a lot given how many greats we have had here. It is one of the very few players Pat never had to get onto about effort, reportedly even in practice. She also has great skills and heart. She also does wonderful service for the community. All around, just a fantastic human being.

Some incomplete stats on Mia Pauldo as I know for her four seasons she made 289 threes and was over 40 percent from the field. This shows her freshman year and seven games of her sophomore season where she was at 75 of 160 for 47 percent. I know she ended up over 40 percent for her career don't know how many she took as a total. I think it was close to 700.

Mya Pauldo made 158 threes in her career missed some games with an injury.

This shows sixty games where she was 96 of 237 for 41 percent. I think her final overall was right at 40 percent for all the high school games she played.

Robertson comes in as a career 33 percent three point shooter on over 600 attempts.

Only thing I could find on Lauren was 16 for 38 in 13 games played. That is an amazing 48 percent just not enough of a total to get a clear picture of her shooting although looks like she is going to be at least as good as Darby and Spear eventually don't know how much playing time she will gather.

Deniya Prawl I think was in the mid 30's from long range and Jaida Civil was 33 percent her senior season.

These would be the five players you would need to replace the loss of 239 of 686 .348 percent. Plus of course need the returnees to be better from three as a group they went 100 for 356 28 percent would hope they would take less or at least get it up to over 30 percent.

A conservative projection:

Robertson 63 of 190 33 percent
Mya Pauldo 36 of 95 38 percent
Mia Pauldo 60 of 160 37 percent
Prawl 33 of 96 34 percent
Hurst 23 of 65 36 percent
Civil 20 of 60 33 percent
Barker 25 of 78 32 percent

260 of 744 34.94 percent which would match what we lost. I gave the upperclassmen the same percentage they have shot for their careers thus far. I lowered most of the freshman three to five points off of what they shot in high school. The hope would be they could go as a group 35 percent with the returnees getting up from 28 to around 32 percent.

Thanks for providing all those stats in one, convenient place!

Now, just in case anyone wants to lower their expectations...
Keep in mind that the college line is (IIRC) 1 foot further back than HS. I found the quote below, but couldn't find a figure on how much decline shooters experienced on average, moving from HS to college basketball.

"Data Supports a Decline: High-volume three-point shooters saw a small decrease, while low-volume shooters experienced a more significant drop in percentage. Freshmen, who are transitioning from the high school line, showed a larger drop in 3-point percentage compared to more experienced college players."

In past years, when the women's 3-point line was pulled back, the reported decline (KenPom) for volume shooters was less than 0.5%, and for low-volume shooters 2.5%.
---------------------
FWIW, the chart below was released following the 2021-22 season's line change:

Personally, I really don't expect us to hit a higher percentage of 3s than last year's team. Those were some good shooters we had!

I'm putting my 2025-26 hopes on this team creating more steals and defensive turnovers, resulting in a greater point shot differential than last year's team.

And I'd sure like to see us get to the line more often ...though I'm not sure how much we control that.
