Tennessee just picked to win the East

2015 should be a good year. Compete for the east...yes. Win the east? Meh. Could happen. I won't be disappointed if it doesn't. We are still thin in certain areas. Still very young in others. 2016 is our year and everyone knows. That's why everyone says 2016. It's obvious. It's what Butch has done for us. This was the process he preaches. We will get there when Butch says so, and Butch is saying 2016.

... I mean, you guys know how this works right? They build you up to tear you down. That's their job. When it doesn't happen they can have something to talk about.

I must have missed that interview where he says "2016 We will win the SEC" lol

and the other part that says "Don't look for much in 2015..."

Depends on how bad Schottenheimer is at Geo and how good DeBord is at UT.

And key injuries for both teams.

Geo gets o-bama and at Aub
We get Ark and at o-bama
We get Geo at home and Flo/Mizzou on road
Geo gets us on road, Flo in Jacksonville and Mizzou at home.

We're one QB injury away from another struggling season. Butch has had his starting QB get knocked out with injury in 4 out of his last 5 seasons.

We haven't had a mobile quarterback like we have now either! Dobbs is not a statue!

We.. Most "older fans" have relished this idea for several years. I am ALL IN! No matter who talks or what they say, this team must produce...... it effects them much more than us.. whether we thing about it or not.

Go Vols!

Bull Cr@p! If ESPN picked us winning the East, then Butch can get some much needed rest and just roll out our stars this fall fresh off the bowl winning laurels. This is ESPN were talkin' bout.

If this same guy picked Mizzou the last 2 years then I'd give him some credit. I think we have as good a chance at the east as anybody else but there's just too many things to consider at this point. Heck most of these guys had the Gamecock's winning the east last year and we know how their season went.

Is anyone else tired of hearing the stuff along the lines of "Not 2015, but watch out for 2016.."

Why not 2015? We have the returning talent, while other schools (maybe besides Mizzou) is losing a lot of their talent.. Not saying anything is for sure obviously, but we have a GREAT chance to make it to Atlanta this year.

Because, this team lacks the experience to win close games, just remember the the Georgia, UF, or Mizzou games from last season. If they can win a few close games 10 wins is very doable even with such a difficult schedule.

That's what these folks get PAID to do. Talk. Talk that gets ratings. Do that and these talking heads get rich.

Sometimes I wonder if people who post what these guys say even understand the dynamics of what is actually happening. :birgits_giggle:

Ugh, the Missouri game's near the end of November.

Hope everyone's ready for a cold game.

I see where you're coming from. I also think that if we had Dobbs for the Florida and Georgia game, those are both W's.

Obviously that doesn't change the fact we lost those games, but my point is that Dobbs adds another dimension to the offense that Worley simply couldn't. Either way, I'm really excited to see how our beloved Vols perform this year! GBO

Not if the talented and now experienced and developed roster plays well and is coached well.

What needs to go the Vols' way is for them to beat the teams they have a talent advantage over then pick off one or two of the 3 where they don't- Bama, UGA, UF. Talent vs the latter two is close and UF is breaking in a new coach.

UT gets Bama and Ark from the West but UGA gets Bama and Auburn. UT more than likely doesn't have to beat both UGA and UF to win the East. They have to go 6-2 in conference and beat one of those two.

Maybe but why leave it to chance. Let's beat both, swing mo' back in our favor and call it day

I am too, barring an injury to Dobbs, I expect 8-4 this season, 9-3 with an upset, 10-2 would be a dream season with this program turning the corner to expecting to win 9 or 10 wins each year. 7-5 would be a disappointment 6-6 with this roster a complete disaster.

You like analysis so we'll look at this situation too my friend...

1...You say we have a talented roster, and most would agree, BUT we have only 2 recruiting classes that are 100% from the buTch recruits and both are top 5 classes which gets us lots of hype and PR.

FACT is that most of that top talent isn't even on campus yet and the others will just be Sophs next season and we all hope we don't see much of the traditional Soph slump that comes along quite a bit around the country but it can happen.

2...You said our team is well coached and I agree because it was totally amazing how fast and well coached last years true freshmen were, even to the point that some became starters and that 23 true freshmen got some playing time and that, to me, is proof that our coaches can by all means coach them up.

3...You said our roster is experienced and developed...Certainly our Juniors and Seniors should be...Sophs haven't even had 1 full year in the program yet, except EE's, and most freshmen aren't even on campus yet.

IMHO I'd say that's over expecting since lots of our 2 deep and starters will only be Sophs and true freshmen.

I'll hardly ever say that something is totally impossible but reality says the odds are stacked against us for right now.

I'm still with the others that expect 8 regular season wins at this early point in the offseason.

Is it possible that everything could go right for us next season with no serious injuries, ect. and we could win the SEC East?

Yes, it's possible and I damn sure hope it does!

I doubt that we can win the SEC Championship but that's also possible but the odds are a lots bigger against that but I sure would love to see that happen too and for our Vols to keep moving forward.

Being very optomistic is great but to over expect when we still have such a young team with little real game experience at many of our starting and 2 deep positions is what always causes serious letdowns and meltdowns here on VN every season.

I still hope we Win it all 2 years in a row, or more, and totally stun the world!

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

How is it different? If we would have beaten UGA, Mizzou and UF we would have won the East.

Then you should say we were 12 points away from winning the East. Or that we were 3 scores away.

Saying we were only 2 TDs away from winning the East isn't right, though.

Had UT actually scored 2 more touchdowns on the season, it still would have only won two of those three games, at best finishing 2nd in the East behind Missouri.

Scoring just two more touchdowns wouldn't have won all of those games.

I think Tennessee and Georgia tie for first place. I think both UGAG and Tennessee will be 8-4 and have a 5-3 SEC record.
