Tennessee is # 2 this week

Story for those that dont want to click on it ---- 2. Tennessee: Already on thin ice with his fan base for underachieving this season while rummaging through his endless war chest of tired cliches and “Coaching for Dummies” pablum, Butch Jones did himself no favors by going out and losing to Vanderbilt 45-34 in what might be the worst and most damaging coaching performance of his career.

Besides all the usual Jones clock management nonsense late in the game — it probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway, but Jones ignored the obvious strategy to kick a field goal and cut an 11-point deficit to eight, then hope to get an onside kick — the real issue is how Tennessee’s defense completely imploded late in the season. It wasn’t just against Vandy, mind you. The Vols also gave up 36 in a win against Kentucky and 37 to Missouri the two previous weeks but saved the worst of all for the Commodores, who were ironically facing their former defensive coordinator in Bob Shoop.

KNOXVILLE NEWS SENTINEL
Five things we learned from Tennessee's loss to Vanderbilt

Yes, Shoop was supposed to be Jones’ big program-changing offseason hire, the missing piece to a potential SEC championship. Instead, Tennessee’s defense seemed pretty ordinary most of the season and downright bad by the end. But given how much money the school has invested in making this work, there’s no relief for either side. Jones and Tennessee are stuck with each other, and at 8-4 he can’t exactly sell upward trajectory or continued improvement heading into 2017. He’s going to have to come up with something else.

You will never like him then. We lose to Florida, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, and at least 1 out of the 3 vs Kentucky, Vandy, and Missou.

I can honestly see us going 2-6 in the East next year. Why not? We went 4-4 this year when we had talent.

Winning the east will not take CBJ off the hot seat. It would buy him another year. With 2 losses to Vandy he will never be off the hot seat.

We will still be very talented.

Methinks they could get him for a special holiday season, pre-bowl, discount right now.

Nobody knows the future, there is no reason to think we will be bad enough to lose to Vandy again over the next 20 years. It's a fluke that the have won any games against us over the past 15 years, same goes for Ky.

Get it together Butch.

Go Vols!

Well... it might help things if someone actually stopped and picked Butch up... he is tumbing his way to K-town, and is now in Crossville. Help the guy out, and he can get back to X's and O's.

Anger in Ann Arbor? Losing to candy is not in the same universe as losing to osu C'mon man!

I dunno paying a guy like Harbaugh $9 million per year and losing to Meyer pulling in about $7 million per year two in a row can sort of tick a fanbase off.

Saw the loss coming to Vandy weeks ago. I was thinking to myself. They're asking Dobbs to be perfect and it's dam near impossible. You can't mask that bad of defense for very long til it finally catches up to you.

People don't get how rough next year is going to be. I hope I am wrong but A 5-7 year is not out the question.

Jones thinks doing community service wins games

Agreed............... I think Butch thinks when he does community service like going to Chattanooga (where Im from) during the week (which was truly a sad situation) instead of prepping for Vanderbilt will get him a pass.....

If you think flying down to Chattanooga before classes with three players of which only two could play to see and make a day better for dying children cost us the Vandy game . Man i just don't know what to tell someone like you sir.

It just goes to show you can have a fantastic team and still throw a tantrum. Good news for the Nega vols.
