Tennessee hires Craig Fitzgerald as S&C Coach

We need a mindset alteration before we see a drastic physical difference. I don't think Rock was a bad coach, we just have a mentally weak unfocused team. Can you break through physical ceilings when you're mentally weak and have no leadership or accountability?

When I went thru AOCS a hundred years ago, I learned that with proper 'motivation' one can accomplish much more than they thought they could. Our coaches MUST instill that kind of motivation... like Saban does. And the players that don't adapt, can go sell their 'talent' elsewhere. Players Want to be at Bama. Our coaches need to have players WANT to be at UT. And of those that do, our coaches need to be able to throw away good ones.

Agree with this 100%. Don’t think any of us realizes just how toxic the culture was under Jones....even though it showed through on game days the last TWO seasons at least. I think we’re gonna necessarily see some culling of existing players from the roster and that’ll be healthy for the program. I also think that the improvement in mindset and motivation we’re gonna see via JP, Fitzgerald and staff is gonna get this team back on a winning track a little quicker than most, including me, would’ve thought just a few weeks ago. By the end of year 2, I believe we’re gonna be a very good football team and program.

Coach Mac first suggested I try a supplement called "creatine," a performance enhancer that was gaining popularity with athletes seeking to gain muscle.

"It will help you pack on weight, and it isn't even illegal yet," Coach Mac explained, handing me a giant bottle of the white powder. "Just mix it with water and drink it before and after every workout. Personally, I like to add a couple scoops to my coffee every morning. Nothing like caffeine and creatine to get your day going. It's like killing two birds with one sledgehammer!"

"Isn't this kind of dangerous?" I asked. "What are the side effects?"

Coach Mac snatched the container back from me and inspected the label on the back. His eyes grew wide. "Oh dear," he said gravely. "It says here that 'side effects may include getting ****ing huge, with occasional bouts of manliness.'"

That made me laugh out loud... Sounds like the guys who moved in across from Hank Hill once at Bill's.

BOOM!! The man trained Clowney and Watt!! What’s not to like about this hire?

Clowney and what aren’t freak athletes because of him. Clowney has been a freak since he was 7 and watt doesn’t matter who’s the coach he’s gonna be great. Also watt has had numerous injuries and Clowney missed significant time so it’s realky not the best way to judge him

Former S Carolina player told me Tennessee got the best hire possible for the position. That said we've had this song and dance several times in the past. I honestly don't think the problem is just the S & C coach, we've had little leadership in the past from the coaching staff nor the upperclassmen players. We've got a new staff but I still would love to see someone step up on this team and demand some accountability out of their peers.

Agree 100%. S&C coach can lay out the plan but if no one is holding them accountable, it’s all for nothing. Also, they can definitely get stronger, leaner/bigger and faster in a few months but real dramatic program change will take 2-3 years minimum.

In years past, I just figured that focusing on Strength was the most important aspect of this position. However, w all the damn injuries we have had the past few years, I am thinking that Conditioning is equally if not more important.

I hope this is true but I feel like I read accolades like this EVERY SINGLE TIME we hire a new strength coach. I'll keep my cup on just in case.

Other than Rock Gullickson, who had built a name somewhere before they arrived at Tennessee? And Rock's body of work supersedes 1 year. So labeling this guy a bust is simply a foolish take. Butch ran off the Dave Lawson due to being 'too hard' on the players. My guess is that the S&C coach has to run his program by the HC. Getting guys with NFL experience is the way to go.

Probably JJ for Cocky Locky.....Cockylocky.....Cackylacky.....Cackalacky?

You have seriously never heard redneck idiots calling south Carolina south cackalacky? Its one of the stupidest nicknames ive heard for a state, but i didnt know it was that unknown.

CCF: Coach what do you think....
CJP: If you can run'em off they don't need to be here, aight?
CCF: Aight.

This is a great hire for y’all. Wish we could get him back. Most people think he was a great help in our three back to back 11 win seasons. As soon as he left, we started sucking again.

JJ watt is perpetually hurt and clowney barely hit the field till this year due to injuries. I don’t put that on the coach tho. I think watts is attributed to steroid use. Clowney I don’t know.
