Understanding the carousel that will take place shortly, this is THE question to consider when discussing a HC change at UT. With possible openings at Nebraska, aTm, Michigan, LSU, Auburn, and Arkansas, where would Tennessee fall into this pecking order? There are 3 fundamental questions, in order:
1. $$ willing to pay
2. Talent base, instate and within 4 hour drive.
3. Facilities
IMO, UT is near the top on #3, probably in the middle on #1, but near the bottom on #2....when comparing to jobs listed above. When I look around the SEC, it seems pretty obvious to me that the top 3 jobs are Florida, Bama, and LSU. Beyond these 3, UT joins Auburn and UGA as the 2nd tier, but still great jobs.
My point is this: Unless Haslem, et al, are willing to pony up the BIG $$ like Bama did, and go get exactly who they want, I don't see the point of just hopping on the carousel and hoping for a solid hire. If they do that, why not just wait another year, when the pickings may be much different. Just a thought.....and worried Jim Grobe will end up being the guy. Wow, big change.
