I've been looking at all the "Fahr Butch! Threads. I don't even know if I agree or disagree yet. Butch will need to make some solid moves in the next 4 weeks to convince me that he just needs more time or the right mix of coaches, etc.
That being said, I don't think we really have a choice. I don't see a "White Knight" of a coach out there that I legitimately believe is going to waltz into Tennessee, at any price, and put this team where the fan base expects it to be. At best, I see us making an even swap to where we already are. There are no big name coaches who are going to come. Gruden isn't coming. Kelly isn't coming. Kiffin isn't even a legit possibility. Strong has proven to be a bust. Miles has already proven that he can't beat Saban. Petrino is damaged goods and really is being propped up by one good QB right now. Why would any currently successful coach leave their winning program to come to the SEC East where there is so much parity that no one team can dominate? Hell even Houston Nutt wouldn't take this job right now.

We may not all like this coach right now, but all things being equal, we better support him for our own sake. He's getting another year whether we like it or not. Having a recruiting class tank due to coaching rumors will be a self fulfilling prophecy. The next coach, whether it be Jesus Christ or Huntland High School's water boy, will be starting with a talent gap worse than it already is.

Some of us hated him from the moment his name surfaced as a possible candidate and nothing has really changed in 4 years. We've been in a waiting game for far too long. Anyone is better than this cheeseball.

This is exactly the reason the Vol faithful are so very disappointed, it seems there's just mediocrity ahead for the near future even though it's been so very long since UT was relevant :eek:k:

The powers that be needn't look any further than to the genius would be coaches here on Volnation. I'm sure that for the right price a whole coaching staff can be had. We'd have Nicky and those elephants eating out of our hands within two years!!!!!

Dooley was better than Butch? Come on now.

Butch is just a classic case of the Peter principle.

Well since my wonderful exorcist gif was deleted I will just post.....no, no, no and for the millionth time......NO!!

This is how we got in the position we did with Dooley...the wait and see strategy....I can still hear the excuses on the VN board from the Dooley faithful. They sound exactly like the CBJ excuses...

....and by getting rid of CBJ, I don't mean just call him in tomorrow and let him go. It means getting a committee together and looking at any "good" prospects. Evidently Jones has put feelers out to Purdue, why can't UT do the same thing?

We don't need a white night. We just need a coach who appears to have the prospect of being here a year from now. I honestly think that barring a miracle turnaround in 2017 recruiting class and a 10 win season next year, Butch is gone. I've heard more or less the same thing from analysts who pay attention to UTK football. A lame duck season with a couple of down recruiting classes is going to cost us a lot more than whatever it would take to make a change in a few weeks.

You can think that he is a bad coach and want him gone, but the fact that you actually hate the man is strange

It's disappointing to see other programs realizing the benefit of a strong football program and investing whatever it takes to ensure they get it. Michigan, OSU, Texas, Alabama. I for one would be ok paying higher ticket prices if UT cracked open the check books for a Harbaugh type. Just look what he has done in 2 years compared to the 4 from MAC coaches like Butch

I want Butch gone as much as anyone but there's a lot of coaches out there who would do worse here.

I know many share that opinion but I'm in the crowd that thinks we do more damage if we cut him loose now. Players are more loyal to the coaches than the school so you can bet we would lose more than a few of the freshmen and sophomores. Hate to see the #1 dual threat QB transfer out before he takes a snap

I see people post things like this all the time. It makes no sense.

Michigan got a great hire in Jim Harbaugh- but he was a Michigan man. Played QB under their legendary coach Bo. You think without those Michigan connections he leaves the NFL?

Even so, Michigan has yet to make it to their conference championship game, yet to beat their arch rivals OSU, and yet to make it to the playoffs. By Volnation's standards - He's highly unsuccessful and will likely be given one more year before he's fired. :loco:

Texas opened up the checkbook for Strong and what did that get them-

6-7
5-7
5-7

Dooley knew X-O's more than Butch could dream about... Butch out-recruits him. Both have a hard time relating to players, but I'm getting the feeling that the "megaphone Butch" deal is getting old with the players...

Charlie Strong has to be the most overrated HC I've ever seen. Sure he's a good recruiter around the Florida area and a good defensive mind but a lot of his success relied on Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville. He's bailed him out on a lot games that he should have lost. Similar to how Dobb's athletic ability bailed Butch out on games he should have lost. Sorry but losing to an 1-10 Kansas team tells me all I need to know.

Yes and some of you would be complaining and stirring the pot even if we were 12-0 and in the playoffs.

Yes Strong would be gone now and folks would be trashing Harbaugh because he couldn't make it to the title game.

But many on here wanted him when he was available.

Harbaugh has made tremendous strides in his short time there. He has them in contention for the playoff and is 1 QB away from being one of the VERY few teams that could compete with Bama for a title. He did this in how long?
