Tennessee has got to get this one right

It doesn’t have to be a sexy hire (Kiffin would be awesome but not happening)...but it has GOT to be someone who’s not gonna come in and fail like the previous 3 coaches...and we as a fan base have GOT to be able to accept 6-7 win seasons for the first 3-4 years because it’s not gonna be a quick turnaround...we can’t keep this “3 coaching searches a decade” routine up...we will never get back to prominence if we do...so I don’t care who the next coach is as long as it’s someone who can win at least 18-21 games over the next 3 years...I think that’s the goal....and hopefully improve upon that

I have zero confidence in the administration to make a competent hire. Part of that is, despite Plowman’s words today, because they don’t care what happens as long as they get paid. The other part is they’ve shown for the last decade plus, that the athletic department is ran like a low budget circus in a mall parking lot.

The Barnes hire was a lucky mistake they fell into because of Texas.

Tennessee has got to get an AD. Per Plowman, "I know you'd rather we did this in the opposite order but we need to do this correctly" indicating we'd hire an AD who'll then hire a football coach.

Even Fulmer reiterated this when asked if he'd be in on selecting a coach: "If I'm asked, I'll help." Go back and watch that question from the presser. There's the hesitation, the deferral, the obvious knowledge of Phil Fulmer that he has little power in the next selection unless he's asked for input.

We're not hiring a coach before Fulmer is gone and he's not gone until we hire an AD. For that reason, I'd suggest you get comfy with a year or more of Kevin Steele.

I think that there might be karma by hiring another fired Texas coach.

1. They have to get an AD hire done properly.

2. A new coach is going to want to know how deep the pile is that he's stepping in and that's going to limit the candidate pool

Of course Jamey Chadwell is not a given to be successful here, but I'm all in on the Chadwell train. He can hand pick the members of his staff to come along (and they have almost all been with him for 8+ years). He brings Grayson McCall (this has been speculated in the Carolinas and appears to have some legs) with him and many think this kid is one of the top ten QB's in the country right now. He grew up 40 minutes from Neyland and has always loved the Vols. His wife was born (in Iran I believe) but grew up in Athens TN when her parents fled their country. Said by his colleague Barclay Radebaugh at Chas Southern (their bball coach who has coached there for 16 years). “I’ve been in Div. I athletics for 33 years, and Jamey’s one of the best coaches I’ve been around regardless of sport,” Radebaugh said. “He has an amazing ability to bring the best out of everybody. Jamey has the ‘it factor.’
And don't get squeamish about the NCAA penalties at CSU. This was very much centered on their compliance officer and no direct tie to JC. Of course the NCAA slapped him for failure to monitor staff, but that is always done.
JC is a good looking family guy who is still a small time kid at heart. I love his innovations. And his players seem to be very well schooled in fundamentals.....something sorely missing here at UT for years.

He could be a generational hire and be here for 10+ years. My two cents

You forget how good a 6 - 7 win season would have been over the past several years. If we could accomplish that and build upon it, the next coach will be given leeway. 3 - 5 wins is so hurtful.

We may have to accept 6 to 8 wins a lot longer than the first 3/4 years.

Fans have to lower their expectations.

I hope the coach that is hired brings toughness and discipline, and can really change the core of Tennessee football. Even if it means tearing the program down to the few that can buy in and starting over. Tired of seeing us out toughed and physically dominated by teams we should beat.
