Barnett is one out of how many players that Jones has recruited??
Probably wanna get another Butch flavored lozenge for that cough the way you are jumping on everyone in this thread.
Look, I'm not saying that Butch doesn't deserve some heat (I wouldn't care if he did walk except that it will cost us Guarantano) but this column was superficial. Most of the players cited have two years of eligibility left and Phillips should start next year. Now is not the time to judge them. It's not the criticism of Butch that bothers me... It's calling our guys 'busts' who still have half of their career left that is BS.

I would hardly call Hurd, Malone, Tuttle, or TK jr. busts. That's just silly. McKenzie was coming off of a broken leg and didn't even play his senior year. Richmond has been doing much better and is just a rs freshman. Preston Williams quit and Hurd was on pace to break UT's rushing record. Kyle Phillips and Dillon Bates have been busts; 2 out of 10 is hardly Earth shattering no matter how much you want it to be.
I think most people don't understand what a five-star recruit really is. It doesn't mean that they are vastly more talented than a three star recruit, it simply means that they are physically most ready to play at the next level. In most cases if a five-star recruit cannot make a significant impact by year 2 they will not make much of an impact at all.

Why don't you haters just go burn his damn house down? I'm sick and tired of all your childish bellyaching.
The one other thing I will say is that Simmons gave Jones credit for Maybin, Barnett, and Sutton.
The Top100 prospects don't tell the full story with Butch Jones. Derek Barnett is a likely first-round pick and was ranked just outside the Top100. Cam Sutton was a three-star that is sure to get drafted. If Jalen Reeves-Maybin stays healthy he'll be a pro for years.
I would also point out that Darrin Kirkland Jr was just outside the top 100 as well and had a great freshman season but was injured and/or hobbled most of this season.
And at the end of all this, Jones has developed a top 10 preseason team into an 8-4 train wreck looking at Nashville or Charlotte as a pre New Years destination.
The author of this crap would have called Reggie White a bust after his sophomore season in 1981... Actually, Reggie didn't do much until his monster senior season in '83.
Here are some other 'busts' - if you only include their first two years of eligibility:
Jason Witten (made very little impact until the Citrus Bowl vs Michigan at the end of 2001)
Robert Meachem (didn't do much until his junior year in 2006)
Right. We would still be in the top 10 if we had beaten South Carolina and Vanderbilt. I'm not defending those losses. That's ridiculous and he should be more accountable than he has been so far. I'm not defending his coaching or his tired coach speak rhetoric.
Have any sources on that?I think most people don't understand what a five-star recruit really is.
