Doug Matthews had a great point this morning....

At the end of his show.. He said that having so much Tradition at Tennessee.. we dont have many people high up that have Tennessee backgrounds..
besides Fulmer.. Everyone is here for money and jobs.. not for the love of the University as a whole.. not because its all they know...

He also said Tennessee doesn't have many players who are now coaches....

Can you think of anyone who played at UT who is anywhere suitable to coach/be groomed to coach that played here...

It would be awesome to have a former player as a coach... with love and passion for this university that we have...

A great coach doesn' HAVE to have direct ties to the Tennessee program...does he ???

I think Alabama fell on hard times using that philosophy...and finally buried Bear Bryant...

No.. it doesn't at all... I was just wondering if there was anyone out there? I cant think of anyone..

and besides Head coach.. it would be nice to have alot of people in the higher positions with more love and understanding of our tradition and passion than just another pay check.. not saying all are like that... just some..

Wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if there was not another "Tennessee blood" as coach as long as the product on the field is good.

Granted I would prefer it that way if it was an option but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

That is because our coaches can't even do a great job themselves. How are they suppose to groom others? It says even more about how useless Fulmer is. He can't develop talent, manage a game well, keep the players disciplined, etc...

Everyone wants to say he is a great recruiter, BS. Look on rivals for the 2998 recruiting class for Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. UT got about 3 recruits out of 20 that were considering us or one of those three rivals. Saban even stole two of the best prospects from TN. Fulmer can't even recruit anymore!!!!!!!

Not that I want to defend Fulmer but the places he use to recruit well now has better coaches than they did in the 90's.

I couldn't care less if a coach wasn't from Tennessee or isn't familiar with our traditions. That sort of barrier just limits your options and potentially hurts you by preventing someone who can bring something new and successful from being hired.

that is true.. and that plays a huge role in it.. but the talent he has brought in isn't shabby and we have not lived up to any of their potential..

Remember Ahmad Paige.. How we stile him from LSU i believe... And he was supposed to be our next Robert Meachem.. Where is he now??

Good question, If, you as Fulmer. He will probably tell you Paige doesn't know his blocking assignments. Why did Kenny Oneal transfer. He was suppose to be a BIG TIME receiver too. Fulmer doesn't give the new kids on the block enough looks in a game to let them prove themselves. Which is another reason we lose a lot of high end recruits. Fulmer either won't play them for a year or two or redshirt them, Berry being one of the only exceptions in a long time.

Just bring in some guy with passion and fire for COACHING. Screw him being a "Tennessee guy". Bama tried that for years and stunk it up. Bring in someone that DOES NOT have UT ties. Just find someone that will grow roots here.

All of that is very true... Kenny O'neal was supposed to be amazing.. just like Paige.. just like Branden Warren..
I honestly thinks he's just gotten comfortable with everything.. comfortable with mediocrity...

We need new blood..

but I ask again..

Anyone of a list of Tennessee Alums that are now coaching...

You inbreed long enough and you end up with mutant children. Tennessee needs some new blood injected into it. Enlarge that genetic pool.

Amen. Having too many products of the same system has led to a culture that lacks ingenuity and fears change.

See K-Mart and Sears as business models for what you get with a lack of new thinking and ideas from the outside. Both are only shadows of their former selves. Remind you of anything?

although to be honest MANY of Fulmers name players went to play Pro ball and some are just ending their careers...and i wouldnt say many NFL types are looking to spend their retirement on college sidelines..

I coach high school ball, and run across former players quite a bit coaching at the high school level~~~~
